I collected a few Sweet Chestnuts yesterday, something else we can thank the Romans for. [email protected] #autumnfall #Spencerestates
Acres of wild flowers are still giving us a splash of colour in early November here at Althorp. [email protected] #wildflowers #nature #Spencerestates

I cannot describe how beautiful the scent of this rose actually was today, I normally only stop because I can smell fox or Badger. Old habit! [email protected] #Spencerestates #roses

Barry C. has kept the field drains and water systems running properly for more years than we can remember,l here at Althorp. If only more people had his insatiable work ethic and drive. It's even difficult making him stop for a photo! [email protected] #Spencerestates
From another small part of #Spencerestates I’ve not seen as many as this for quite a while, but it’s a similar thing this year for other fruits too. Loads of acorns too.
Security found the "burglar " last night sitting on a gold picture frame! He was released with no charge and given a moth for his trouble. [email protected] Pic. Sam W. #bats #Spencerestates
We have a sika calf in the park that prefers to be in the company of sheep rather than other deer? It seems quite happy and more importantly, healthy. At least it will get supplementary feed over winter. [email protected] #deer #Spencerestates
One of my favourite coins ever! Unearthed on a archaeological dig at Althorp. It shows the twins Romulus & Remus the legendary founders of Rome being suckled by the She-Wolf. [email protected] #Archaeology #Spencerestates
'Barnie' scrutinising me very closely in one of the Estate's older barns. [email protected] #barnowls #owls #Spencerestates
One of our Estate gates was rammed by a stolen car that was then burned out on our arable field. Add to this two more lots of fly-tipped rubbish and it becomes a day of repairs and clearing up when other things needed doing. [email protected] #ruralcrime #Spencerestates

Weighing in at less than 6 grams (a 20p coin) the Goldcrest is Europe's smallest bird. I see them regularly at Althorp hunting for small insects & spiders with their sharp, thin beaks. They often consume moth eggs too. [email protected] #Spencerestates

Common Buzzard busily feeding on earthworms in the mud this morning at our new wetlands area. Quite a muddy beak if you zoom in. [email protected] #wetlands #Spencerestates #nature
One of our resident common buzzards was in full "mewing" mode this evening. It answered me every time that I called to it, but soon flew off when it finally realised that I wasn't a buzzard, too! His perch is a fallen beech tree. [email protected] #Spencerestates
