1/4: Janis for #ThrivableStories I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 8 in 1955. I spent a month in a hospital's pediatric ward filled with kids with polio and leukemia. The whole time I was there, I felt fine. I was very active. I wanted to walk around.
3/4: Janis for #ThrivableStories I was hospitalized with an emergency appendectomy in 2004 on Labor Day weekend. Not a good time to be in the hospital. I immediately told the nurse that I was type 1 diabetic. My physician was part of the hospital system.
