Went to go take a sneaky, non-intrusive look at Colaton Raleigh's 17th century Tithe Barn this morning. The village 'tithing barn' reportedly burned down in 1831 and I think this is it repaired. Now a very nice private home. #Devon #TitheBarns

Earlier in the year I came across this 1914 painting online of the Old Tithe Barn at Edge, Branscombe. I was aware it was taken down some time ago, but went and had a look today. Side by side comparison. The dwellings are now called Tithe Barn Cottages. #TitheBarns #Devon

Today is #ExmoorDay! Dunster, on the edge of #Exmoor, hosts one of Britain's best #TitheBarns. Thought to be 14 century and proven to have stored tithes, it was recently restored to a very high standard. One of many landmarks across the #NationalPark.

Late in the day for #OnThisDay but 22nd June really wasn't a good date for #TitheBarns: In 1940 Whitburn Tithe Barn, thought to have been built pre-1245, is destroyed by bombing as part of the Sunderland Blitz. In 1963, Pilton Barn in #Somerset burns down after lightning strike.
