@clementgoubert talk about unfixed TEs in human population. Interesting interplay between chromatin state, gene expression and TE insertions #UppTransposon2020
Cool symposium so far @alexander_suh! Lots of interesting topics about transposable elements, in a format that allows to be focused during all the different talks! Nice presentation @OMPalacios7! Here a screenshot! #UppTransposon2020
So cool story from @MollyHammell about TDP-43 protein and it’s role in silencing of TE expression #UppTransposon2020
What a fantastic yet unexplored world of TE novelties! TE - mRNA fusions and TE exonization are frequent in certain tissues (e.g. testis). These RNAs may produce new immunogenic peptides as well. Exciting findings in talk of E. Alice Lee at #UppTransposon2020
@CeciliaMimmi presenting right now about Repetitive elements and allopolyploidization at digital #upptransposon2020. Oh I missed conferences...
Last TE-day! Let’s learn as much as we can! 👩🏻🔬👩🏻💻#UppTransposon2020 #Science #TE #phdlife #junkDNA
We are all excited for the #UppTransposon2020 meeting starting today - greetings from Dresden to all the TE friends
Thanks all for sticking around for the last session of the last day of #UppTransposon2020! Great talks + discussions! Here is the conference group photo in the typical 2020 style. Poster sessions ongoing, followed by concluding remarks + open discussion + socializing. Cheers!
Great talk by @MollyHammell at #UppTransposon2020 — the plot thickens on transposon dysregulation in #ALS
My fav image from #UppTransposon2020 thus far (stolen from Saba Mottaghinia cool talk on koala endogenous retroviruses - watch out Mr President)
The third and final day of #UppTransposon2020 will begin in 30 minutes! Exciting #transposon & #retrovirus talks + discussions, followed by virtual socializing. Looking forward!
Another successful #UppTransposon2020 day! Thanks to all speakers & participants for great #transposon & #retrovirus talks & discussions. Today's session is again concluded in an open discussion (still ongoing) - currently talking about horizontal transfers, ERVs, and icebergs.
Next invited speaker at #UppTransposon2020 is @SpringerNathan talking about his exciting research on maize TE expression!
Great talk by @clementgoubert on polymorphic TE insertions and human gene regulatory variation. Way to go Clement! More here: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/abs/10.109… #UppTransposon2020
Our final invited talk at #UppTransposon2020 is by Alice Lee on her exciting research on transposon-fusion transcripts!
The 4th Uppsala Transposon Symposium will begin in 30 minutes! Looking forward to e-meeting you all and to hearing about your exciting #transposon and #retrovirus research. Please use the hashtag #UppTransposon2020 for Twitter coverage of the meeting.
Wow, sunshine in October in Uppsala! (view from my home office) We put the #UppTransposon2020 meeting series into the Swedish fall season on purpose, and now this: Good weather.. Looking forward to another day of exciting #transposon & #retrovirus research, followed by e-beers.
After an amazing transposable element symposium #UppTransposon2020 last week, now am excited for the #cshlTE20 for 4 days !! To virtually meet all TE enthusiasts 🙂 looking forward for this conference.
@alexander_suh @ClaudiaKutter Let me show you my belated gratitude for your smooth organizing the #upptransposon2020 conf. The time difference prevented me from attending many sessions, but the way how you built active forums was very impressive!
Big thanks to all speakers & participants for making #UppTransposon2020 a success! Please all stay safe & see you @ #UppTransposon2021. If you're already craving #transposon talks, don't forget to sign up for CSHL TE (meetings.cshl.edu/meetings.aspx?…) and vICTE (icte2020.sciencesconf.org/resource/page/…)!
#UppTransposon2020 was so much fun :D Just as the last year, this year I learned quite a few nice new things related to TE in non-model organisms and otherwise, and enjoyed the symposium immensely :D I can not thank enough, @alexander_suh @ClaudiaKutter and Patric Jern!
We have very much enjoyed the #UppTransposon2020 meeting: interesting talks, open minds, and many opportunities for discussion and interaction. The effort and thought that went into this clearly showed. Thank you, @alexander_suh, @ClaudiaKutter, and Patric Jern.

Up to figuring out whether TEs can be used for crop breeding in rice and how this is important for certain stress conditions presented by @marta_robertson @methylcytosine #UppTransposon2020.
@clementgoubert #UppTransposon2020 found thousands of still segregating TEs that regulate gene expression (TE-eQTLs) via modulating the chromatin state. See more here: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
Beautiful work by Peter @PSarkies #UppTransposon2020 showing that TE expression increases under minimal natural selection and explains the role of piRNA-targetable sequences. Check out biorxiv.org/content/10.110… soon in BMC Biology
Giovanni Pascarella @muju79 #UppTransposon2020 presents how somatic recombination of Alu and LINE1 contributes to genome diversity. This story in its full glory is available here: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
@ClaudiaKutter concluded the #UppTransposon2020 meeting by advertising the fantastic community-driven initiatives in #transposon and #retrovirus research. Some highlights also in this @MobDNAjournal thread:
Dear #transposon tweeps, let's also use #TransposonDay2020 to think about the future generations in our field. How can we as a community minimize the career impact of Covid19 esp. on students and postdocs? Please reply here with your thoughts & suggestions, or DM @alexander_suh.
Thank you to organisers of #UppTransposon2020 @alexander_suh @ClaudiaKutter & Patric Kern Great social discussions have been had each evening, sadly had to sit today's out as playing a game of badminton 🏸🏸
