Really enjoyed being part of #VerbalFeedbackProject can’t believe it was 4 years ago. A shame there is still much work to be done across the sector on moving from marking to feedback. I was still banging the drum @histassoc conference last month
What a marvellous group of teachers to work with. Those at the board produced this definition of 'engagement' to help form a stronger focus for the group's research question #VerbalFeedbackProject @TeacherToolkit @lcll_ioe @DiscoverUCL @Rethinking_Kate

It was a pleasure! It’s clear that we’ve come a long way since the #verbalfeedbackproject but that equally, there’s still much work to be done, so I’ll keep pushing the message at conferences and on here!!
🗣️ One teacher said, "The #VerbalFeedbackProject has a knock-on effect on classroom management and on the behaviour of pupils.” Switching how you mark pupils' books isn't just about teacher workload, it's so much more than that ... 💥 teachertoolkit.co.uk/2019/09/28/ver…

The #VerbalFeedbackProject (McGill + Quinn, UCL, 2019) changes teachers’ lives, and their workload impact on pupils💥
Facebook memory from 2018. The last year I ever took piles of books home and relied on written comments in books to try and move my students forward. Verbal feedback all the way, now! Leaving more time to enjoy the tea and cake on their own!
Just read an email from @sarahlarsen74 "I’ve not ‘marked’ a book in the 'old-fashioned way' for almost five years, now!" Can you imagine that in your school? #VerbalFeedbackProject
I was one of the teachers involved in @DiscoverUCL ‘s #verbalfeedbackproject published in 2019. Summary of results: •No negative impact on student engagement. •In many cases, improved engagement of vulnerable students. •Decrease in teacher workload, increase in wellbeing.
This then led to a post-talk chat with another teacher keen to begin a conversation about moving to VF. Anyone in the same boat - as I said to her - print off the #verbalfeedbackproject report and go armed! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ 2/2 ucl.ac.uk/widening-parti…
What was also great about Sarah Davies’ talk was that she made full reference to @DiscoverUCL and @TeacherToolkit ‘s #verbalfeedbackproject report written by @MarkQuinn1968 as a fantastic way to increase oracy in the classroom. 1/2
Session 2 - a fascinating discussion of why oracy is important for EVERY aspect of students’ current and future lives, not just passing exams.
Breaking news 🚨 1️⃣ Teachers do not need to ‘mark’ all their classroom books. 2️⃣ They do not need to do it once a week … 🆓 #VerbalFeedbackProject You’re welcome 😇
Thanks for the mention, Paul. The #verbalfeedbackproject lead by @TeacherToolkit certainly concluded that teacher workload decreased and well-being increased. Time which can be better spent planning for effective feedback in class. Here’s the report ⬇️ ucl.ac.uk/widening-parti…

Day 2 at SHAPE International 🏫 School with headteacher, @mrntandl Tour of classrooms, podcast and #JustGreatTeaching teacher training, exploring the #VerbalFeedbackProject research for teachers. Spotted @MaryMyatt’s book in his office. 😇 #SLTchat
Schools should be working to change perceptions of parents so they understand that if something is not written down in their child’s book, it does not mean that the assessment (marking) hasn't taken place. Quite the opposite... teachertoolkit.co.uk/2019/09/28/ver… #VerbalFeedbackProject
Reading up on #assessment for Mark Plan Teach 2.0 and dipped in to The CRAFT of Assessment by @m_chiles; a great overview on the key areas of marking, feedback, assessment and knowledge and memory. Delighted to see the #VerbalFeedbackProject gets a mention amazon.co.uk/dp/1912906813/…
Two weeks ago, I led worked with teachers in Wales as part of my appraisal/observational work from #JustGreatTeaching. One teacher decided to begin research in their classroom and shared their action plan; such a shame schools are now closed. #VerbalFeedbackProject #SLTchat

Being a commuter for the day - super excited to be taking part in @RossMcGill ‘s #verbalfeedbackproject today at @IOE_London !!😃😃
Collating opinions about verbal feedback for @TeacherToolkit #VerbalFeedbackProject from my yr 8s. Mixed views, but it seems the main reason some miss written marking is the words of encouragement, not how it may or may not help them progress. @MarkQuinn1968 @MrsMarshall1978
Super excited to be playing a part in @RossMcGill and @IOE_London ‘s #verbalfeedbackproject ! Completed my first reflective journal today. Actually been really useful to order my thoughts like this and to consider what still needs to be improved. #feedbackNOTmarking
