Windows Embedded POSReady 7 is a version of Windows based on Windows 7 (2009) & designed for use in “point of service” (“POS”) devices, such as ATMs. It’ll receive extended updates (ESUs) until 24th October 2024, making it the longest-supported Windows 7-based version of Windows.

Today marks the end of an era for Microsoft, as the support for Windows Embedded Compact 8 has ended. Windows Embedded Compact (or more commonly known by its former name, Windows CE), was a real-time OS used in many embedded devices as well as Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7.

Thanks to the Windows 7 community, I’ve found unofficial eMMC drivers that actually WORK with Windows 7! 🎉 Installing Windows 7 on that cheap intel celeron Chromebook right now! 😄 Hope it goes well! 😅 Seems to be slower than Win10 setup, probably cpu is running at base speed.

Windows 7 on a modern cheap Intel Celeron Chromebook. 👀 Only keyboard works, so can’t use touchpad. Windows 7 lacks eMMC support, so can’t really install it on the internal drive. And yes, this Chromebook is using a custom firmware, in order to boot other OSes than ChromeOS.
