When these cauliflower & red cabbage transplants have 7 true leaves, I will set them out, maybe weekend. Only 3-4 true leaves at the moment. Watered and then a little light rain - they should race ahead. Under fleece to exclude pests. #allotment
Broad beans in full flower watered well- makes all the difference in yield in dry springs. Blackfly & ants present - expect damaging infestation in 10-20 days. Leaves well notched by pea & bean weevil. The crop will grow away from the weevil now. #allotment
Netting the cabbage patch before planting, One of my least favourite jobs of the year with many entanglements. Net is over 20 years old and needs some repairs. Pigeons will strip a plant in the time it takes to fetch a can of water. #allotment
Allotment update. First earliest are well up. Cosy beds for parsnips carrots and beetroot. Brassicas filling up space and onions are growing. Next job is to chit the dwarf and runner beans and sew purple sprouting. #allotment
