It's a wrap for the second Ambush of Tiger Beetles specimen data transcription expedition in @nfromn . Thanks to the amazing volunteers collaborating with us in this project. #beetlecuration #digitization cc @osuc_curator @NSF

Decades of chronic lack of space led to large (messy ☹️) temporary storage in our beetles. Now we’re reorganizing & making sure there’s only 1 taxon per tray. This will increase accessibility for future #digitization & scientific work. #beetlecuration #NSFfunded #collections

Our first tiger beetle data transcription expedition is live on @nfromn. This effort is part of our ongoing #beetlecuration project funded by the @NSF. Please go check it out & join us! cc @EntCollNet @SysEB_Entsoc #digitization zooniverse.org/projects/md681…

Our data is currently published in a number of places including the Ohio State University’s Museum of Biological Diversity database on Triplehorn Insect Collection @OSUCatOSU, @iDigBio, and @GBIF #NSFfunded @NSF #beetlecuration @osuc_curator @ASCatOSU

Excellent! 🥰🥳 1st big step in recurating the #scarabs (moving the specimens into new archival quality trays) is done. Now we’re updating our taxonomic catalogue, printing new tray header labels, & reincorporating the specimens. #beetlecuration h/t @osuc_curator @NSF

But #beetlecuration is only one part of our daily work. We continue sending loans out, like these precious leafhopper primary types that were shipped to a scientist this week.

We’re knee-deep into the #beetlecuration project, w/ 4 new undergraduate curatorial assistants that just started their training.

Phew!! 😪 All these Schmidt boxes contained specimen donations to our collection. mostly beetles. Boxes are all empty now. cc @osuc_curator #beetlecuration

First big goal of our #beetlecuration project is to move specimens to archival quality trays. Our original trays are lined with cork covered w/ glossy paper. When trays were first purchased the cork was probably soft & easy to pin specimens to it. +++

Q: Why transfer specimens from the old trays? #beetlecuration Hum... 🤔let's see ... A: Top 3: 1) old trays are too crowded, 2) specimens are stuck to the tray liners, 3) glue that held liners in place has expired long ago.
