But #beetlecuration is only one part of our daily work. We continue sending loans out, like these precious leafhopper primary types that were shipped to a scientist this week.
Phew!! 😪 All these Schmidt boxes contained specimen donations to our collection. mostly beetles. Boxes are all empty now. cc @osuc_curator #beetlecuration
We’re knee-deep into the #beetlecuration project, w/ 4 new undergraduate curatorial assistants that just started their training.
First big goal of our #beetlecuration project is to move specimens to archival quality trays. Our original trays are lined with cork covered w/ glossy paper. When trays were first purchased the cork was probably soft & easy to pin specimens to it. +++
Precise curatorial work of one of our undergraduate student assistants. 💜🪲🥹 (yes, we’re leaving space between spms to fit ID labels to be added for digitization). #beetlecuration #curation #collections #museums #NaturalHistoryCollections
Excellent! 🥰🥳 1st big step in recurating the #scarabs (moving the specimens into new archival quality trays) is done. Now we’re updating our taxonomic catalogue, printing new tray header labels, & reincorporating the specimens. #beetlecuration h/t @osuc_curator @NSF
In an effort to minimize #COVID19 transmission our staff and student assistants will be working online this week. Stay safe & healthy, everyone!#beetlecuration
Slowly / carefully working on the longhorn beetles as part of our #beetlecuration project. Second year of the project ends in 09/2023. We’ll soon be posting ++ about our progress so far. cc @osuc_curator @NSF @CFAES_OSU @OSUEnvironment @EntCollNet
Closing the 2nd yr of 3-yr @NSF funded #beetlecuration proj. Team lead by @osuc_curator excelled while facing the challenges of conducting a big curatorial proj amidst a pandemic. From hiring/training staff to keeping a safe workspace to buying supplies. What a whirlwind!
We ❤️ our #volunteers ! They support our efforts in many ways. Right now they are helping us achieve the goals of our @nsf funded #beetlecuration project: from incorporating new donations to handling the legacy collections. cc @osuc_curator @medflygenes @baeus2
It's a wrap for the second Ambush of Tiger Beetles specimen data transcription expedition in @nfromn . Thanks to the amazing volunteers collaborating with us in this project. #beetlecuration #digitization cc @osuc_curator @NSF
Q: Why transfer specimens from the old trays? #beetlecuration Hum... 🤔let's see ... A: Top 3: 1) old trays are too crowded, 2) specimens are stuck to the tray liners, 3) glue that held liners in place has expired long ago.
Our data is currently published in a number of places including the Ohio State University’s Museum of Biological Diversity database on Triplehorn Insect Collection @OSUCatOSU, @iDigBio, and @GBIF #NSFfunded @NSF #beetlecuration @osuc_curator @ASCatOSU

Decades of chronic lack of space led to large (messy ☹️) temporary storage in our beetles. Now we’re reorganizing & making sure there’s only 1 taxon per tray. This will increase accessibility for future #digitization & scientific work. #beetlecuration #NSFfunded #collections
