@1969ajo brings #BeSPfin up to speed on paternalism and nudge approaches for behavioural public policy
Nyt kannattaa tulla linjoille! Upea seminaari ja luento käynnissä. Miten tutkimustieto saadaan vietyä käytännöiksi, hyödyksi yhteiskunnan eri tarpeisiin. #bespfin @tyoterveys
Good point. On the other hand, relatively little nudging terminology used at #bespfin (you were there, right?) I think what makes nudging different from behavioral change in general that it's a combination of methods (beh insights) and justification (libertarian paternalism).

A great 2nd #BeSP symposium started in Finland. Understand the behavior, why are behaviors as they are? Good question @SusanMichie #bespfin #behaviorchange
In Finland citizen's jury is assembled to deliberate an issue BEFORE a wider referendum is carried out. Maybe some other countries with referendum derived problems could learn something from this...? #bespfin #brexit

The second BeSP symposium: BEHAVIOURAL INSIGHTS IN DESIGNING PUBLIC POLICY & INTERVENTIONS is approaching and Tiedekulma is fully booked! Welcome! You can also join the event via the livestream. #bespfin #tiedekulma #unihelsinki
Kiitos @MarjoKurki. #BeSpfin
Marjo Kurki #bespfin-symposiossa: Voimaperheet-interventiossa digitaalisuus mahdollistaa menetelmäuskollisuuden (fidelity) ja siten sen, että matalalla kynnyksellä on saatavilla kaikilla alueilla näyttöön perustuvaa, vaikuttavaa palvelua @BeSP_FIN #vaikuttavuus
Clear &usable insights on the work to map the active ingredients of interventions & the most crucial mediating variables for effectively changing behaviour by @MartinHagger #bespfin
Glad to see classical pragmatists being referred to @ Behaviour change science & policy symposium. #bespfin
Refreshing talk from dr. Michael Sanders at #bespfin got me to think about trials differently
The paper is an emergent property that came out during two years after I met Daniele, a complex systems physicist at #ICCS2020 online, and invited him to a party we were having at Behaviour Change Science and Policy #bespfin symposia. 4/ mattiheino.com/2020/10/19/bes…
First author has a very nice talk in our #bespfin symposium, see Daniele Proverbio here: 2/ mattiheino.com/besp

Please excuse my surprise, but this was... not stupid. Actually, pretty good. A problem I see in bringing science to policy tables is that with the good, comes the bad. Perhaps – as in business – it'd be best to invest in people not ideas? #bespfin youtube.com/watch?list=PLp…
These talks are part of the @BeSP_FIN symposium led by @NHankonen; see presentations from earlier meetings here: linktr.ee/besp #bespfin
Ok here are the conclusions. Ken recommends checking out @collins_most's work. Apparently there's no open source RL software around. Phew, live tweeting fries my brains! #bespfin
He shows a clip from the Jurassic Park and the relevance becomes clear – he's arguing context matters. [I know there's been Registered Replication Report research into some of this, I wonder what's the state of the that?] #bespfin
Ken moves into something seemingly very different; the #replicationCrisis, showing work from @lakens and the OSC. #bespfin
People who experience sudden gains seem to experience more long-lasting change. We need to detect the wobbles that precede sudden reorganisation, but importantly, figure out how to make such destabilisation happen. #bespfin
The consequence is, that based on data, we can try categorise systems (like people undergoing weight loss efforts) and identify periods of sensitivity to change / relapse. #bespfin
Critical transitions can be categorised as bifurcation induced (lanscape changes, until tipping point that "breaks the camel's back"), and noise-induced (some jolt kicks you out of the current attractor) #bespfin
... because it looks like the jumps, called critical transitions, happen in wide variety of systems from ecologies to biological organisms to mood disorders (in my talk I mentioned activity levels in a weight loss intervention; research led by @GuillChevance) #bespfin
COVID is fought on the network level, and hopefully we'll see a lot of new data soon. #bespfin #networks #complexity
Temporal networks are "bursty", long gaps with nothing happening and then a lot happening. We'll come back to this later... :) #bespfin #networks #complexity
You could speculate the weak ties are superspreaders; hubs with a very high degree (i.e. number of connections). Nobody really knows the structure of contact networks due to the difficulty of tracking people's connections – except for 1 dataset... #bespfin #networks #complexity
Zooming out conceptually (see row with arrows in the bottom), we see that the thing spreading – e.g. COVID – lives in clusters. #bespfin #networks #complexity
Prof emer highlights that in #evidencebased policy making, same scientific evidence can lead to different decisions. Policy choices depend also on values. #koronafi #bespfin
