It could be with WSL stripped off and #coLinux (revived for development) and installed instead. Heck, even having WSL1 instead of WSL2 would make Windows somewhat nearer being a Linux. Not in the current condition.

Linux-on-Windows folks, you won't believe this! Some guy started reviving (compilation of) the #coLinux with a bit more modern compiler. Seems like at first that would be #clang, and later #GCC from #MinGW. Yay! github.com/colored-dye/co…

What could really be running Linux kernel on true NT kernel, is the #coLinux. But it's (1) unrelated to the original thread and it's (2) no longer being developed. Nice project nevertheless.

Sounds nice. Also I think the #coLinux could reuse these new features (in case it gets reborn:), CONFIG_VIRTIO_NET CONFIG_VIRTIO_CONSOLE CONFIG_SCSI_VIRTIO CONFIG_VIRTIO_FS ... instead of implementing own cobd, conet, cocon, cofs. Though not sure what to replace cofb with.

And if one implements the BIOS/UEFI interface, how would it be different from other Type-2 hypervisors (KVM, VirtualBox) doing paravirtualization too? I guess it becomes the same VirtualBox. OTOH, using modern VirtIO drivers to reborn #coLinux IMO would be really nice!

"An idea: the XaaS user mode OS based on coLinux for both realhw & <langsys>" Hey, #coLinux with @openvz is being remembered and brought back on the table :) From Simplified Chinese. I don't know what does the "langsys" mean – probably an "interpreter". zhuanlan-zhihu-com.translate.goog/p/191251668?_x…

I am not sure I understand the Google-translation of the Japanese text, but the TinyVisor mentioned in the article reminded me about the #coLinux approach. Which is a bit different, but still about sharing one machine between two OS instances. My guess is that you either need:

And for cases where someone absolutely needs to run the code in ring0, there was a pretty nice thing called #coLinux (with development stalled at the moment). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperati…

I once mused about a "better #Cygwin/#coLinux" that wrapped the Windows kernel with the Debian userspace, but I concluded that security, privacy, and control were more important than gaming. theregister.co.uk/2019/06/27/mic…

All this #Ubuntu on #Windows hype. It'll be like #coLinux that actually works on x64!
