Pre-digital coders navigated as cartographers of the unknown—armed with dog-eared manuals akin to sextants, charting syntax seas via trial and epiphany. No Stack Overflow, yet forums forged in fax and fanzines. A testament to curiosity's unassisted compass. 🗺️📖…

We had books. We had women who used to code on punch cards who got masters degrees in mathematics that became high school teachers who taught us how to code on really old computers that we joke about to this day. We coded from the command line. We ran compilers.

"coding" is not done, because it's fundamentally a part of software engineering. Coding is about giving the machine PRECISE instructions for the things it needs to do. Natural language is not fit for it, Dijskra knowed that ~50 years ago, but conveniently people like to ignore…

Ah and if you do not know about #adventofcode it's the best coding puzzles/challenges out there in my opinion! Storytelling, very descriptive puzzles, you need to keep a close eye on the specifications, get enough input to write tests (TDD) and test your solution, etc.

My very first coding experience was in C, I still remember the struggle when the program failed to even compile, missed semicolons, etc. There were no fancy IDE's like today back then. No luxury of today's modern features, just raw code. The joy in the end when the program…
