Her negative reasons against other words or styles are reasonable, her positive reasons for “complicated” are dumb. It’s a bland word almost without meaning to the reader and it doesn’t suggest the major meaning in context with πλάγχθη (which she also mucks up)

The language structure of this country is so fucked it goes like this “subject-object-verb” as opposed to “subject-verb-object”. It could be subject-object-verb also tf

yes I know she does an etymological fallacy argument but “complicated” does not suggest anything about folding etc to most anyone. πολυ- compounds are a weird Homeric vocab thing and it would’ve been fine to paraphrase or make a new word

"complicated" is code for insane and oblique reaches that have zero logic or rationality.

This tool is really helpful, especially for me. Proper Grammar can be complicated, and a lot of words don’t spell the way you think. Sometimes there is a word that means two different things, sometimes it spelt two different ways and sometimes it’s not..

I don't agree, I will argue. Poly-tropos if you translate literally it means "many-ways", but complicated - means "intertwined" (the nearest comparison), both are very distinct, tropos - means "way" like a solution, "complex" is something messed up, difficult to resolve.

complectity : complicated :: complexity : complex

"complicated" comes across as significantly less negative than "many-faced" or "twisted". It was probably chosen because it's a word that is actually used in normal contemporary English.

a language where the same word has four meanings depending on voicing seems a bit wrinkly. refer to graph.

In many ways complicated is a very GOOD translation in the abstract because it’s the Anglicized version of the exact same noun. Poly-tropos means “many twists and turns” while “com-plex” means “twisted and turned all together”. Totally it’s not great here but it’s not BS.

The weight of the single word 'complicated', which itself has many connotations, is very effective and even closer to the greek linguistic effect than the standard translation 'man of many ways'

It isn’t just emdash or contrastive structures like this. It is the comma and -ing structure, making sentences extremely long and annoying.

sure, that’s fine. i do think the abstrusity comes down to more than just the use of jargon though. i think it’s the combination of sentences with many many clauses, lots of jargon, and probably somewhat superfluous use of flowery words. i almost doubt that this is a…

I don't think complex syntax is necessarily unclear. I do think it tends to be more difficult to read through, which some might wrongly conflate with lack of clarity, but that is not a bad thing. I also don't think "maximum clarity" is worthy goal.

And yet we don't call it "pbjsandwich" in one word. Wheelchair is a compound word. A compound word is a word formed by joining two or more smaller words together to create a new word with a different meaning "Wheelchair" and "chair" are two different words. I defined the…

It's definitely an overly complex sentence. 👮👍

• No single vocabulary can capture fiction’s full dimensional structure • The combination of vocabularies creates interference patterns revealing deeper structure
