I finally pushed publish on why I moved from HTMX to Datastar. everydaysuperpowers.dev/articles/why-i… I'd love to know your thoughts! #htmx #DataStar #Python #webComponents

Why I switched from HTMX to Datastar
Why I switched from HTMX to Datastar
Crude Demo: Minimal Criterion Coevolution with Resource limitation. Two populations of agents, one to produce the levels, and one to solve. UI is powered by #datastar showing random solutions for levels
realized the ease of #Datastar in following scenario today. I have a list of menu item. i need to delete one of them which is active as well. so i have to remove the item + if the active page is menu item replace the active page along with url
Fun fact putting ids on the right elements can make a big difference when using morph in #datastar at scale (morphing 2500+ divs per frame) especially when using grid layout. I guess I can render 4x more stuff now. 😅
4. i did replace few characters like ',", $ etc. before saving and replace it back before initialization for #datastar data handling
🤔 i have a weird use case using #datastar. i have a data-on-load on div , this div often gets replaced e.g removed based on input search. I think (might be my code issue) data-on-load are randomly not being called.
⏮️ In case you missed it… Most web apps today are over-engineered. On Netstack.FM 🎙 Ep.4 we talked with @DelaneyGillilan — creator of #Datastar — about rethinking web performance through Server-Sent Events, #CQRS & hypermedia. 🎧netstack.fm/#episode-4 #WebDev #Rust
Don't worry about it @atdeastl I'm happy you can show what's possible with hypermedia. Also #datastar made it possible so @DelaneyGillilan deserves a load of credit For future reference if you ever want audience participation. There's a QR code if you press the share button.
Adaptive row rendering virtual scroll in #datastar. The red number is the total number of rows rendered including offsets/tolerance.
Here's a proper test in production (not localhost) with a real app. 300ms slower when going from a 10kb to 18kb (#Datastar unminified), both with brotli level 11. What's worse this is on a good connection if it was 3G with higher packet loss the difference would be even larger.
javascript minification is a cargo cult
`maud` templating + `bon` builder crate. I love HTML templating in Rust. Playing with a first Rust project that will use #datastar for the UI. Webdev in #rustlang is getting more and more pleasant for me.
Had a load of fun at Maker Gonna Make Dundee. Ended up making a location share QR code (after spending a morning messing with quadkeys). The codes are generated on the server, converted to SVG and then morphed in to DOM via SSE (using #Datastar). They compress nicely too.

🤔 which is better while implementing loadmore/infinite loading using #datastar 1. removing load more ui when count reaches the limit (this takes at least one extra db call) 2. removing load more ui when db call output is empty (this takes at least one extra network call)
its so easy achieving a loadmore/infinite loading using @DelaneyGillilan 's data star & @golang's templ below is all the code you need in frontend . Rest of the logic is in backend. data-star.dev/examples/infin…
What we explored on Netstack.FM🎙 Ep.4: • Why Server-Sent Events (SSE) can outperform WebSockets • How hypermedia can simplify modern app design • Why “real-time” doesn’t have to mean “JavaScript-heavy” #NetstackFM #Datastar #WebDev #Rust #OpenSource

Thank you to @_andrewchou for being the 99th star!! github.com/cablehead/xs It means a lot. People keep telling me, cross. stream's not a real project, not like the juggernaut #datastar with its 3K stars. ngmi, etc. If you've a github account and see this, won't you lend the…
🤔 is this a good server error implementation using #datastar ? 1. if any error has occurred in server send a patch signal for error message via sse e.g "Error in updating data" 2. Sleep/wait for few seconds (i tried 5 ). 3. send a patch signal again to clear the error
4. i did replace few characters like ',", $ etc. before saving and replace it back before initialization for #datastar data handling
1. followed the below example and used the tools/plugins for #editorjs github.com/codex-team/edi… 2.during initialization (new Editorjs constructor), saved the returned object to #datastar signal (with a underscore, this doesn't have to be sent to backend) editorjs.io/configuration/…
for the wsywig will give wysi a try. seems to work well with data-bind from #Datastar wysi.js.org

goal: learn & implement @supabase with magic link + @golang + @DelaneyGillilans' #Datastar + WSYWIG editor (yet to finalize on this)
Nice write up. Interesting it doesn't mention #datastar. Feels like that would be a more relecant comparison than HTMX. Realtime, collaborative, optimised network etc.

Goal : Implement focus trap in tool built with #Datastar. Algo (asked ai) 1. Collect all possible focusable elements in the trappable container 2. During key down tab press if document active element is last element from focusable elements. ev.prevntDefault & focus firstelement
things i miss rt away if i go back to project not using @DelaneyGillilan's #Datastar are 1. SSE 2. Ability to patch signals it feels boring

Multiplayer demo (link below). This is built entirely using sever driven html and #datastar (no signals, just fragment morph).
Just because you want a web frontend doesn't mean it has to be complicated or your framework has to be massive. When your full framework is smaller than some JWTs opens up a world of simplicity. #datastar

A compression ratio of 96:1 on an SSE stream with brotli (vs 55:1 with gzip). This is why #datastar's combination of #idiomorph and SSE is so good, you don't need diffs. Do you know what else uses snapshots and compression instead of diffs? Git.
