A new STEM topic for p7 today- Materials: Chemical Changes. A great opportunity to discuss prior knowledge with a partner and to build on yesterday’s lesson on Rusting with the St Ninian’s young STEM leaders. 🧑🔬👩🔬🧪#ERCSTEM
P2 continued their study of the Human Body in Science today by focusing on the skeleton. They learned scientific vocabulary such as ‘humerus’ and ‘femur’ and found out they have 300 bones - nearly 100 more than adults! #ERCStem
More predicting and testing out of Materials in P1 Science this week. This time we were trying to decide which material would best protect Humpty Dumpty’s shell from cracking. Lots of quality discussions from the children and lots of excitement too! #ERCStem
P2 were learning about the lungs during their STEM topic ‘The Human Body’. They found out that lungs take air in and send out carbon dioxide. They loved making a lung with a paper bag and straw, drawing on the important parts and inflating and deflating it. 🫁👍 #ERCStem
P4 loved exploring the result of mixing cornflour and water today during their STEM topic ‘Changing States’. They were hoping for slime but instead the result was somewhere in between a solid and a liquid. Lots of great discussion followed! #successfullearners #ERCStem
P1 investigated more about Materials in Science today, predicting and then testing which one would be strongest for the 3 Little Pigs’ House. We discussed fair testing and then had fun trying to blow and fan our straw, stick and brick walls down. 🏠🐷#ErcStem
P1 were classifying materials in Science this morning, sorting them into ‘soft’ and ‘hard’, before discussing why some materials are better for certain purposes. They decided that glass was too hard and breakable for Cinderella’s slipper in the fairytale! #ERCstem

P2c and P2d had our STEM leaders visit this afternoon. They showed us how to use the BeeBots and we used them to learn about directions. We made them move forward, left and right to find sounds and shapes. We had a great time! #OLMSTEM #ERCSTEM @DigiSchoolsERC
