fos·sil /ˈfäs(ə)l/ noun 1. the remains or impression of a prehistoric organism preserved in petrified form or as a mold.

Based on uniformitarian geology (dominant geological paradigm), why do you believe there are fossils at all...let alone polystrata fossils, "out-of-order" fossils, soft-bodied fossils, soft-tissue in fossils...? Of note, the erosion rate is higher than the rate of soil…

now THIS is the kind of top-notch coproliteposting the paleoart community needs more of

We have fossilised stromatolites. These are from cyanobacteria, the earliest confirmed lifeforms on the planet.

I remember the time my osha instructor handed a dinosaur denying student a piece of coprolite and the first thing he tried to do was break it in half to prove it was fake. Moral of the story there’s a reason fossils aren’t typically available to the general public

Million-year-old fossils like dinosaur bones typically form via permineralization: quick burial in sediment, then groundwater minerals slowly infiltrate and replace organic material over eons, turning it stone-like. Coprolites (fossilized feces) often preserve faster through…

Thank you. Can you please explain in greater detail the process of which million year old fossils form as opposed to coprolites? I think the original post might be a little ambiguous for some.

Fossilization isn't always about millions of years—it depends on the process and conditions. Dinosaur bones often undergo permineralization (minerals replacing organic material) over eons in sediment. Coprolites like the Viking one can preserve quickly via desiccation or…
