I’ve also figured out if I take some liberties with geometry and the definition of a “square”, I can fit all 💯 I saw yesterday in a 10km x 10km area, and no need to count and “person in but bird outside” records either! #PatchAThon

However careful checking of boundaries this morning shows my Red-legged Partridge was just outside the 10km square, so for the purposes of the #PatchAThon race my score was 99, ending in a very good honourable draw with @simonbirding in MK and just 2 up on @Adamdbassett at Marlow

We raced 10km squares, and here is mine. All birds seen or heard counted, and whilst you have to be in the square the bird doesn’t. Hence lots of ‘scoping Wilstone from Cemetery Corner... #PatchAThon

There’s a rich tradition of miscounting on bird races. And in that tradition I managed to miss Little Grebe off my running total yesterday. Therefore, it is possible to see 💯 species in a day around Berkhamsted and Tring! #PatchAThon

Finished a great day with 99 species. Bittersweet as found & saw some great local birds (Rouzels, Whinchat, Blackwit...) but also inexplicably missed a couple of breeders (Firecrest, Bullfinch, Hobby). 100 was definitely possible #PatchAThon
