Release v3.15.0 BoY42 · PHP-CS-Fixer/PHP-CS-Fixer

bug: VisibilityRequiredFixer - handle DNF types (#6806) DX: officially enable 8.2 support (#6825)

It's always great to see an Open-Source project you've started to strive without you. Congrats to the #PHPCSFixer team

🔥 Did you know that #PHPCSFixer, which is an underlying engine for Laravel Pint, has powerful caching feature which allows you to just run the Fixer for the whole codebase every time 😁? Only modified files are effectively analysed and/or fixed (depends on --dry-run option) 🪄

🔥 Did you know that Laravel Pint has a "--dirty" option which when used, only fixes files that have changed?

Fingers crossed for this release and all of your projects that #PHPCSFixer proudly covers 🤞😁. Happy fixing!

That's where your help is crucial - because userland code may contain things that even philosophers didn't dream about, it's the best playground for tools like #PHPCSFixer 😉. Please upgrade to v3.15, run analysis & let us know about any problem you encounter. Hopefully zero 😅.

Dear #PHPCSFixer users, we've just opened Discussions section on @github as a official support channel 🥳. If you have any problems, questions, ideas - please use Discussions for it. We won't provide support on Twitter unless it's super easy answer 😉. github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

Yeah, the size matters... In projects that allow running full QA suite in minutes (like #PHPCSFixer) it does not matter that much, as PHPStan without result cache runs only few seconds. But in large apps like ours it's basically impossible to run full QA suite locally.

We've just discovered @erickskrauch's custom fixers repository for #PHPCSFixer, which contains some interesting rules. Do you know any other custom rules that we should be aware of? Let us know! 🙂 github.com/erickskrauch/p…

That's really quick adoption of #PHPCSFixer v3.15 😏

current status 🔥 refactor large codebase, mostly without test with @rectorphp + #ecs + #phpcsfixer 🤯

We're always amazed seeing such comments, because #PHPCodeSniffer and #PHPCSFixer were available for years, ready to be installed and used 🙂. We're happy that Pint made us more accessible, though.

Probably way too late, but if you didn't notice yet - #PhpCSFixer is now communicated directly via @PHPCSFixer

Wow! What can shoutout from one and the only @fabpot do 🤯! Thanks to him, and of course other people who shared info about #PHPCSFixer, we got >200% new followers since yesterday! Woooohoooo! 🥳 Thank you all very much ❤️

Dear #PHP community, we want to ask you for help: please spread the info that #PHPCSFixer is here! 🙏 We're going to share helpful information in the future, but what even the best tweet would be without the audience? 😉 #phpc #symfony #laravel #codingstandards

Really interesting change is going to land in #PHPCSFixer in the (hopefully) near future 🥰! This not only means you will be able to use FQCNs to configure Fixer rules, but it will also unlock using 3rd party fixers like those from Easy Coding Standard, that use FQCN as name 🤩.

After almost a year since I created it, my PR to #PHPCSFixer that introduces #PHPCompatibility check was merged 🥳. This improves our QA suite with another tool that can catch usage of language features not available on runtimes marked as supported. github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

Me neither 🥲. Token-based tools like #PHPCSFixer and #PHPCodeSniffer too 😅.

Yeah, I know and I agree. By "complex" I did not mean logic or creating objects, but when you have test cases like in #PHPCSFixer (source code, expected code after fixes) it wouldn't be good to provide them via an attribute. Data provider is better, as you can format it properly.

Thank you all (#PHPCSFixer users, and my Github sponsors) for understanding! #OSS is great, but it's not my duty, it's my hobby 🙂.

I have ~150 Github notifications to process after several months I was mostly focused on my fitness. Did only really basic #PHPCSFixer maintenance since May, no complex code reviews, no coding. I feel really sorry for that, and I hope I can go back to some routine soon.

Now I can start to balance these things, hopefully I can get back to #PHPCSFixer and maintain the fitness activities. I need some time to figure it out, but that's the next goal 🙂.

#️⃣7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣7️⃣ just got a significant fix - if you had a problem with parallel runner fixing 0% of your files, please give it another chance with latest release of #PHPCSFixer 😊.

📢 NEW RELEASE! Fixer v3.63 brings new features, several internal improvements, but most importantly few fixes, including one for parallel runner that should help everyone having issues with process stuck on 0% 🥳! Especially those using Laravel Herd. github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

Actually you can't. Yes, you're right, ECS provides `MethodChainingNewlineFixer`, but it's currently not possible to use ECS' rules in #PHPCSFixer (because they use FQCN as a name), we need to finish and merge github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P… for that 😊. Hope to deliver it soon.

It's good to know #PHPCSFixer rules and how to configure them 😎. cs.symfony.com/doc/rules/

Even for bug fixing? TDD for new features can be challenging if you don't have a complete vision of it, but when it comes to bugs it's great to reproduce it with a failing test case, then fix it in the source. It's a standard procedure in #PHPCSFixer (and others, I believe).

I have been writing code for years, currently working with 25-year-old app with 2M SLOC codebase, in my free time I am co-maintainer of #PHPCSFixer and recently introduced parallel runner there. Yes, I like QA, automation and Docker. Ask me anything, I won't bamboozle you 😊.

Tools that implement parallelisation and their main process only orchestrates (delegates work to child processes) have to be aware of those processes. It may be called ProcessPool like in #PHPCSFixer (and others), but it's basically process manager ☺️. github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

A tool to automatically fix PHP Coding Standards issues - PHP-CS-Fixer/PHP-CS-Fixer

It's not your fault. People shouldn't work on changes that were not discussed before, which means: - bugs reported and verified - backlog issues representing new features or improvements, with clear Definition of Done In #PHPCSFixer we encourage opening Discussion first.

There are tools that can automate migration, like #PHPCSFixer can change #PHPUnit annotation to attributes 🙂. Getting rid of legacy annotations may require a lot of work, but PHP ecosystem is great and helps a lot ☺️.

However, there were false-positives, as it reported also symbols from #CaptainHook, #PHPCSFixer etc - this is because CRC considered this code as PROD, but these symbols come from `require-dev`. Conclusion: it's good to know the basic assumptions of the tool you're using 😆.

Mutation testing in #PHPCSFixer is ready 🥳! When it's merged, all pull requests will be covered with @infection_php & checked if added/modified files are mutants-proof. It will enforce really good tests quality (which already has been high with MSI=80). github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

In 1 month time I'll hit the mark of being #PHPCSFixer's maintainer for 1 full year. I believe it was very busy & fruitful time that I can be proud of 😁. I was able to improve (directly or by pushing others into right direction) so many things, and also learn so much! #grateful

I've never thought that my 100th merged pull request to #PHPCSFixer will be a revert of a PR that I reviewed and merged before 🥲. I guess we all make mistakes 🤷‍♂️. Anyway, great milestone 🥳! github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

Another feedback for #PHPCSFixer's parallel analysis from @Life_And_Dev, on a project with ~6k #PHP files 😍! Please note that results are achieved on different runtimes, as sequential analysis was done on a host, while parallel through Docker on Mac. github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

Please respect maintainers' time & do the research before filing an issue 🙏. First of all, #PHPCSFixer has enabled Discussions with Q&A section, so please ask questions there. It also has pretty good docs, so please verify rules' descriptions to verify if they cover your needs.

I did an experiment and added mutation testing to the #PHPCSFixer, it looks like Fixer's MSI is higher than @infection_php's 😅. Or..... I did something wrong 😆. PR: github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/P…

For sure fixer's tests are not completely useless, I just gave an extreme example for clarity. But you can only guess how good the test suite is without MSI. For example MSI for Infection itself is 76% - still a lot to improve!

In order to use #PHPCSFixer with pre-built #Docker images, you just need to run Fixer in a container, with your code mounted as a volume. Use it locally, utilise in CI - the only limit is your imagination 😁. The main advantage is that you have full matrix of Fixer/PHP versions.
