Back in March FSF and @NPL headed to @GobabebRSH in #Namibia to conduct some preliminary fieldwork for #RadCalNet and #Hypernets Horizon 2020 satellite calibration sites. Read about everything we got up to here: fsf.nerc.ac.uk/news/Gobabeb.s… #spectroscopy @NCEOscience @NERCscience
1 year timelapse at Railroad Valley USA, one of the #RadCalNet sites run by the University of Arizona. #EO @OpticalSciences youtu.be/RsfNPrFqeZI
During the #RadCalNet WG meeting this evening, one of my teammates was joined by her young daughter who listened carefully and drew this summary slide with the sun, Earth, a spectrum, lots of satellites and at the top the data - a graph of the site comparisons! Isn’t it great?!
It's our last day in the Namib Desert today, and we've been hard at work all week doing multispectral and hyperspectral surveys of the #hypernet and #radcalnet sites here. We've used #SVC and #ASD spectrometers simultaneously, and our new MAIA S2 multispectral camera! @NPL
The new #RADCALNET instrument installation on 10m telescopic tower. Excited to embark on another science journey with @NPL & @esa

Do you use #RadCalNet data? If so, please fill in our survey at: forms.office.com/r/8VQJ5Bz4R8.
Are you a #RadCalNet data user? We're organizing a RadCalNet users workshop on 9 June- contact me for details. RadCalNet is a network of instrumented ground sites with SI-traceable calibrations for satellite vicarious calval. See: radcalnet.org - new users welcome too!
In 2010 the BIPM-WMO meeting recommended we "Ensure the availability of appropriate surface sites for validation of satellite remote sensing measurements." Since then we've had @ESA_EO #FRM programmes, #RadCalNet, #Hypernets. What will we recommend in 2022?bipmwmo22.org
Summarising the results of the #RadCalNet users' survey before the workshop later this week. Really gratifying to see these comments (and interesting to see the other responses - very small preview there...). Survey still open at: forms.office.com/r/8VQJ5Bz4R8
Great to see the next generation of metrologists getting involved! And a brilliant artistic rendering of #RadCalNet's work 👏👏🌈🌍🛰️🖌️

At the #RadCalNet WG meeting in Perth. We’ve been providing data from four instrumented test sites to validate radiometric calibrations of EO sensors. #EO #CalVal
Thanks to #MetEOC funded by #EMPIR @EURAMET for funding my participation in this project. #RadCalNet is a network by @CEOSdotORG , @CEOS_WGCV
3. Setting up #RadCalNet 2014-now. RadCalNet is a @CEOSdotORG network of instrumented sites providing SI-traceable top-of-atmosphere nadir reflectance values every 30 minutes for satellite vicarious calibration. radcalnet.org.
#RadCalNet now has a reference paper. RadCalNet provides bottom and top of atmosphere (400 - 2500 nm) reflectance data every 30 minutes at 4 sites across the world for satellite calval. mdpi.com/2072-4292/11/2… @RemoteSens_MDPI #EOMetrology @NPL @ESA_EO @NASAClimate
The paper I collaborated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences on, is published: applying a metrological approach to the Baotou #RadCalNet instrumented reference site for visible and near infrared satellite vicarious cal/val. @MDPIOpenAccess mdpi.com/726116 #EOMetrology
7:30am start worth it for an interesting meeting with the Chinese colleagues running the Baotou sites and @ESA_EO about #RadCalNet. Exciting developments - the sandy site is approved (data will be available soon) and extensions to the SWIR are planned. #EOMetrology. @NPL

I'm on the steering committee of this workshop because I have had so many excellent collaborations that have stretched my thinking as a metrologist and brought new ideas to the Earth observation communities I've worked with. #FIDUCEO @qa4eoCalVal #RadCalNet @ESA_EO
@NPL’s work to support the #RadCalNet WG was partially funded by @ESA_EO, partially by the #MetEOC projects of EURAMET’s #EMPIR programme - and partially by dedicated staff creatively combining family and work commitments in their evening 😊

#RadCalNet is a network of instrumented ground sites (currently bright desert-like sites) that provides ground and TOA spectral reflectance, with uncertainties, from 400 nm - 2500 nm (sometimes 1000 nm) every 30 minutes. See: radcalnet.org for more details!
Do you use #RadCalNet data? If so, please fill in our survey at: forms.office.com/r/8VQJ5Bz4R8.

Last summer, Emily Mitcheson-Smith, an UG from Southampton Uni spent two months with us as part of the #SEPNet summer placement scheme looking at the uncertainties for off-nadir viewing angles of #RadCalNet. Last week she was one of the winners of the SEPNet poster competition.
