Most of the AI pixel art progress is happening with #retrodiffusion currently. I don't hope for regular pixel artist to be replaced either, but the tools have improved a lot in a year. It is just in different circles and communities.

I've been working on a tool for using generative ai to create PBR textures from input images, and displaying them in #aseprite! Wood texture was generated with #retrodiffusion, then processed with this new method to get normal, displacement, and roughness maps, then rendered!
It is just settings and iteration to get to it. Next version of #retrodiffusion for example is focusing on larger images and copositions, that bring out the meaning better. Also most of my nostalgia is on early/mid 2000s PC games, which tend to have some funky amateur style.
Some WIP of the "UI Panel" modifier model for #RetroDiffusion! It works pretty well so far, could be a little more clean, but you can combo it with the style modifiers to get the look you want :) @nerijs just keeps crushing it with these models!
#RetroDiffusion 12.0.0! Palette control has been added to the controlnet generation menus, so you can finally specify exactly the colors you want it to use! There have also been lots of QoL improvements, and some key bug fixes. See how to update, or get the extension below!

I put out a small update to #RetroDiffusion with version 12.6.0! Only one feature in this update, but users are absolutely loving it. Color Style Transfer lets you convert images to new color palettes, but it respects the color histograms, leading to waaaay better results!

That weapon model for #RetroDiffusion I showed off in the last post also makes a seriously cool muted color industrial style model at lower weights. Especially love the "military mech standing in a burning field"
