Downstream of where tributary carrying waste from Kersey Sewage Treatment Works joins the #RiverBrett @ Cosford it's a bit disgusting, shrouded in algae, face mask dangling from tree. Though abused river brightened by gem-like ♂️ sticklebacks & a catkin tide patchwork quilt. 4/8
Our Year 7 students were out on a Geography field Trip, exploring the River Brett. #oldbuckenhamhallschool #geographyfieldtrip #riverbrett #suffolkrivers #naturalgeography #suffolkindependentschool #suffolkprepschool
Putting into practise our #MoRPh survey training yesterday on the #RiverBrett in Chelsworth. 30 modules completed. Lots more to go. #multiMoRPh @DedhamValeSVP
Guess this is Blushing Bracket. But what about the strange orange ?fungus growing on log floating in #RiverBrett? The liverwort Overleaf Pellia (Pellia epiphylla) coating the banks. #fungi #fungus #liverworts #bryophytes #liverwort #bryophyte #Hadleigh #Babergh #Suffolk 8/8
In the River Brett, besides Perch, big shoals of fish fry - Roach? Could this be a Chub fry among the young Three-spined Sticklebacks in the shallows? #perch #RiverBrett #Hadleigh #Babergh #Suffolk #suffolkrivers #stickleback #freshwaterfishes #freshwaterfish #Sticklebacks 3/6
This pregnant ♀️ Stickleback looks how we felt after a fabulous lunch by @country_logs @ the Grettons. Masses of minnows, many ♂️♂️ in splendid breeding attire. A few small Perch. Downstream of Kersey tributary some small Roach or Rudd #RiverBrett #Hadleigh #Babergh #Suffolk 5/8
Sadly seems quite a lot of the Roach in the glorious big fish shoal in the River Brett at Kersey Mill were diseased. Mostly the fish - including Perch, Chub & a few Rudd - were young, but there were a few bigger ones. #RiverBrett #Hadleigh #Babergh #Suffolk #suffolkrivers 2/6
On the River Brett dissolved oxygen levels were as low as 3%. Aerators will be left running overnight at #LayhamMill and #TinkersLane on the #RiverBrett and manned by @EnvAgencyAnglia Operations staff overnight.
In the #RiverBrett (as in Lee Brook ), a horse skull! Optical illusion that strangled with barbed wire? Can anyone date the pottery (Cosford Hall is 17th C)? Some freshwater sponges & mussels. Abundant Caddis Fly larvae of at least 3 species #Hadleigh 6/8
Lovely crawl/swim in Lee Brook (8.2°C) with lots crowfoot & other water plants, though near this abstraction? structure grey algae instead. Found skulls of 2 horses, long dead, and 2 horse shoes. Rest of their bones scattered quite far downstream. #Chalkstreams #WestSuffolk 3/3
