I advise parents to get a copy of the #ScopeAndSequence list for their local school district. The 'how did they feel about it' emphasis has crept into all of the school subjects, replacing learning about the subject matter.
This is one of the reasons I believe it's important to provide students with #ScopeAndSequence lists so they can see the big picture and where they may have missed some foundational concepts. #AutodidacticHomeschool

The way I incorporate that into my homeschooling method is by purposely connecting the concepts on the #ScopeAndSequence list (for student's grade level school subjects) to the student's chosen #UnitStudy topics.
COMBINE repetition with application. Each item on a student's 'grade level' 'school subject' #ScopeAndSequence list gets reviewed over and over again as it ties into different #UnitStudy topics they choose (based on their interests) over several years.
My homeschooled grandson started his 'why?' stage many years ago. I would answer then record the discussion as a lesson in his homeschool portfolio, linking it to the required school subjects and #ScopeAndSequence lisy when applicable.

I try to remember to record such conversations as lessons completed in their homeschool portfolios, recording what 'school' subjects it related to, and checking off any items from their #ScopeAndSequence lists it applied to.
Why not make #UnitStudies the main focus, linking them to the traditional school subjects while checking off related concepts learned on a #ScopeAndSequence list? Use textbooks and workbooks just to fill in if/when needed.
#AutodidacticHomeschooling using books, libraries, technology, a #ScopeAndSequence list, and age-appropriate adult supervision is all it really takes to provide for a child's educational needs and to satisfy a child's NATURAL desire to learn.
The 'education' system could, and SHOULD, be replaced with: Access to educational supplies (books, videos, kits), #ScopeAndSequence lists (specifying what needs to be learned per the student's goals/interests plus input from parents), adult supervision when needed.
I am currently homeschooling a grandson. He tells me what he wants to learn about and asks me questions then we look up answers together, discuss in detail, then check off what we covered on a #ScopeAndSequence list for his grade level. No set schedule.
That example is how we #Homeschool. My grandson asks a question and then we look up the answer, discuss it, check off any related items on the #ScopeAndSequence list, write a brief summary in his homeschool portfolio noting which 'school' subjects it covered.

When students are allowed to choose the (#UnitStudy) topics they want to learn, motivation isn't such a HUGE problem. It's not that difficult to then link what they want to learn to what they need to learn (the traditional school subjects' #ScopeAndSequence lists).

#AutodidacticLearners can acquire access to #ScopeAndSequence lists without having to spend the time and money it takes to get a degree. By Junior High I'd figured that out on my own (but was forced to attend school for another 6 years).
This is one of the concepts I teach to as #AutodidacticHomeschooling. Given a #ScopeAndSequence list, access to learning resources, and the assistance of an instructor as needed, I guide the student along their learning path.

#AutodidacticHomeschool #UnitStudyHomeschooling Just show them the #ScopeAndSequence list (what the local school district suggests to be taught at their 'grade' level) and let them check off the items.
What would you consider to be important skills to be acquired, and concepts to be learned, under the topic of #Socialization? I am developing a #ScopeAndSequence list and a #HomeschoolCooperative workshop for #Socialization.
That example is how we #Homeschool. My grandson asks a question and then we look up the answer, discuss it, check off any related items on the #ScopeAndSequence list, write a brief summary in his homeschool portfolio noting which 'school' subjects it covered.
Check out the #ScopeAndSequence list your local school district follows. It reveals how shockingly shallow 'education' has become.
I preferred to allow my homeschooled children and grandchildren to choose #UnitStudy topics, linking the topics they were interested in to the required school subjects' #ScopeAndSequence lists to ensure basic concepts were covered. Rarely to boring/lazy 'lesson plans'.
