Il #6aprile 1938 il ricercatore di Du Pont Roy Plunkett e il suo tecnico Jack Rebok scoprirono accidentalmente, in un esperimento, il composto chimico politetrafluoroetilene, poi commercializzato come #teflon. Era chimicamente inerte ed aveva anche un punto di fusione molto alto.

Il #12maggio 1994 moriva #RoyPlunkett. Il chimico e ricercatore della DuPont che durante un esperimento scoprì, in maniera del tutto casuale, il politetrafluoroetilene, più noto come #Teflon, sostanza antiaderente resistente fino a 260°, usata per rivestire utensili da cucina.
