Test Positivity Percentage (% of tests administered that are positive for SARS2): near 100% since end of July #test_positivity #data_collection #testing_limitations #pandemic_dynamics #SARSCOV2_timeline #Fall2022
It’s a bad sign when positivity percentage of COVID testing reach nearly 100%. Only happened during Jan 2022 first Omicron surge with a lot higher PCR testing then. Abysmally low PCR testing since Biden admin stopped funding free PCR tests in Mar 2022, shutdown mass testing sites

Viruses are always changing. How specifically “SARSCoV2” is defined is relevant to questions about “origin”, & #testing_limitations need consideration. For example, here the cutoff of 30% inhibition of SCV2 by blood antibodies is somewhat arbitrary. The distribution is…

I think they tested twice with two methods, and the 2019 sample was positive by the cutoff they used with one test, but negative for the other. There are some #testing_limitations that make interpretation tricky, that’s true. The 2019 sample was collected in February of that…

3 years ago, in late March, 2020, NYC was only testing for covid in people who were hospitalized. Prevalence of covid, historically, is often underestimated because of such #testing_limitations. #SARSCoV2_timeline #Spring2020 #testing_criteria #data_collection
Don't know... The data in the article is from 3/19, a lot has changed. NYC is now only testing people who are in the hospital. Latest report:
1. different animal reservoirs 2. geography (island/contained circulation vs open) 3. difference in community immune system profile, specifically US with more immune-suppression so change in ORF-9 confers less/no advantage 4. #testing_limitations

It is very inconsistent. What grinds my gears - when data from Spring 2020 is reported as if it represents the first spread of SARS-COV-2 during that time. But the data is really representative of the spread of covid tests, and says more about #testing_limitations than community…
