Astrazeneca/Oxford get a poor grade for transparency and rigor when it comes to the vaccine trial results they have reported. This is not like Pfizer or Moderna where we had the protocols in advance and a pre-specified primary analysis was reported. 1/5

Unanswered questions: 1. How long will the immunity triggered by the vaccine last? 2. Can it can prevent severe COVID-19? 3. Will it slow transmission rates if it’s used widely in a population? 4. How well does it work in the elderly?

.@Pfizer says it could seek an emergency use authorization for its #COVID19 vaccine from @US_FDA. But Peter Hotez, a vaccine researcher, speaks for many scientists when he says that despite the “apparently good news,” he would keep the champagne corked. fcld.ly/yb9webs

Secret Service sends in more agents when they know there is a winner. They never did this for John Kerry or Mitt Romney. The agents added to Biden's security detail are the ones who will walk him into the Oval Office.

Lockdowns are designed to avoid catastrophes not limit losses.

1/9 There is a lot of the argument "lockdowns only delay deaths rather than reduce them" going around at the moment. There is also a lot "let's see the balance sheet" for direct v indirect #COVID__19 harms....

I had a go at demonstrating this numerically for the US as well

A thought I've been having a lot recently - everyone says that waves 2 & 3 of COVID-19 have been markedly different from the first This is often used to support the idea that COVID-19 is getting less deadly But is it true? 1/n

Wow! In the Netherlands, a train has run through the buffers in Spijkenisse, onto an artwork called Whale Tails. The train driver was taken to hospital for a check-up.
