Worship is not about self-expression; it is about giving corporate expression to God and his reality. - Carl Trueman

You should aim to represent your city. Your church might not contain every tribe and tongue, but you can seek to be present in every neighborhood and among every people group in the city you are called to. Full episode with @deaninserra 👇 i-sml.mtrbio.com/public/smartli…

The effectiveness of walking with a weighted vest has less to do with the vest and more to do with the walking. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Gratitude is a great antidote to greed. “What do you have that you didn’t receive?” 1 Cor 4:7

You can grow in humility if you remember this often: no one thinks about you as much as you think about you.

It’s all about Jesus.

Leaders own mistakes. One of the best ways to earn trust up or down an organization is “I’m sorry. I missed the mark. I’m going to work to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

The “easiest” way, and the most effective way, are often very different. Do the most effective thing efficiently. In the long run, it’s the easiest.

Correct It: Your culture is both what you celebrate and what you tolerate. When people act against the cultural norms, address it. Claim to value punctuality but never start meetings on time? You have a culture of tardiness. Correct behaviors that undermine your desired culture.

The only hope for the whole world is a cultural and moral confrontation with conversion Christianity. @deaninserra

Coach It: Help your team understand how to live the culture. People won’t naturally connect cultural values to their actions. Show and tell them what's expected and how they can help build and champion the culture. Never assume your culture is caught passively.

Champion It: communicate your culture widely. Share it with your people and weave these values into everything you do. When you're tired of championing your culture, people are beginning to grasp it. Celebrate positive examples. What you champion will get repeated.

Codify It: Before you can build a culture, you must know your target. Write down existing and desired values. Codify the beliefs and behaviors that already exist you want to keep. Introduce aspirational values, too. Defining the culture you want is the only way to cultivate it

You can outsource competency. You can never outsource your culture. A less competent* individual who is a culture fit will out perform in the long run. Hire for culture. *less competent doesn’t mean incompetent.

We all need people who know us, love us, and encourage us, and also don’t buy our hype.
