Yun, Park, Park and co look at gene fusions in 268 tumors. Some fusions do not produce chimeric mRNAs but cause upregulation of driver genes by modifying regulatory regions. Gene-intergenic fusions are common, which explains missing intragenic breakpoints genomebiology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

I think we'll set a record for "journal to classroom" here - I'll teach this TODAY to 1st yr graduate students after describing the famous Findlay @JShendure 2014 Nature paper on doing this to DBR1 in mammalian cells (Fig 2b below). @PhilDespres @nzmyachie H/t @doyonlab
