I know the Oscars is intended to shed a light on worthwhile films, and I get that that's why a lot of cinephiles get invested in it. But to me it feels like nothing more than an overly grandiose ceremony for vain, self congratulating millionaires, so I dont pay any attention.
Will Smith saying he wants to be a vessel for love fifteen minutes after hitting a guy live on international TV and then getting a standing ovation is just an incredible summation of what Hollywood’s all about.
Most of the best films ever made include characters doing and saying terrible things. It's only an issue if the film takes an explicit stance in support of that behaviour. If that's not the case, then leave the filmmakers alone.
The issue that I have with this supposed character arc is I dont see how its earned in any way throughout the story. It's just told to the audience through voice over at the very end of the film.
