With #AAS2020 cancelled and London going #covidcrazy, I am social distancing in style halfway up a mountain in Wales for the next week. No internet, no plumbing. Time to crack on with some theory...
This is probably the best primer on China's cyber architecture available at the moment. Great work by our friends @EUCyberDirect!
What drives 🇨🇳 cyber diplomacy? Who are the key players? What could be next steps for the Sino-European cooperation? We provide answers to these and other questions in our new #DigitalDigest by Nikolay Bozhkov. Check it out! #EUcyber #DigitalEU 👉🏻eucyberdirect.eu/content_resear…
Cracks in the facade. People's Daily (Chinese) reports on shouts of "Fake, it's all fake" by residents in Wuhan, directed towards Vice Premier Sun Chuanlan on his potemkin-style tour of a local quarantine zone. Tweet on PD English since deleted, but still visible in Chinese
bit.ly/3cvO1ES
It's 2020. Time to discuss: China's Social Credit System, where are we now? Event with @schneiderfa77, Liu Jun, Rogier Creemers, and Adam Knight.
When @globaltimesnews correspondents start to quote Les Mis songs that call for revolution, you know something's not quite right. (Double irony given HK protesters' penchant for exactly the same number - and Chen Qingqing's voracious hatred towards them)
Thanks Florian! Great questions and a receptive audience
Nice to be able to support our @LeidenHum PhD researcher @AdamDKnight at the #digitalasia2019 conference as he presents on a local pilot scheme in #China’s push to establish a #SocialCredit system.

OMG! Did you know your social credit score in China dictates your place in the customer service queue???? ... nytimes.com/2019/11/04/bus…
Speaking on techno-orientalism and bifurcation of the Chinese web at #YCWLauChina2019. Great questions and a v engaged audience! @YCW_Global @lauchinainst
Wow. Such conflation of topics. Social credit is scary, though not for any of the reasons stated here. Very counterproductive; this kind of uninformed analogy is cited readily by Ch officials seeking to discredit other criticisms leveraged against CCP
Came across this page of The Narrow Corridor, from the authors of Why Nations Fail, depicting China’s social credit system. Does this tendentious interpretation come from two professors’ own delusional disorder?
One for the Sino-masochists

Update: marking PRC 70th bday with new PhD in Chinese Studies as part of project “The Smart State: Big Data, AI and Law in China” under watchful eye of @MrRogerC (@China_Digital). Focus will be on social credit. As such, I feel the time for Twitter lurking is over. Here goes...
“First test & learn, and innovation will burst.” The motto of the the distinctive localised #SocialCredit piloting in 🇨🇳, which resulted in 653 initiatives in 2016. Great presentation by @AdamDKnight, @UniofOxford, at @RobSchuCentre’s workshop on China’s #SocialCreditSystem.
Had a lot of fun working on this; the diversity of Chinese expert opinion on social credit would stun most foreign observers
