The world’s 1st octopus farm would cram a MILLION of these smart and sensitive creatures into tiny tanks before painfully freezing them to death – but a massive public outcry can help stop it. Sign and share now! #BanOctopusFarming secure.avaaz.org/campaign/en/ba…

Mwinzi has decided a bit of luxuriating is in order. And who can blame him? At our Kaluku Nursery, he & his herd of hope (AKA the other orphaned elephants) are living it up as they heal from the trauma of being orphaned, ahead of their eventual reintegration back in the wild.

Doldol gets an A* for effort as she attempts to feed herself, directing the milk bottle into her open mouth with her trunk. One day, she'll have the strength to hold the bottle herself. It is a small miracle she’s here today given all she’s been through: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/doldol

Kamok has always marched to the beat of her own drum: as a vulnerable lone newborn, she strode into a human settlement on wobbly feet to find help. Growing up in our care, she established herself as a very strong-willed & mischievous elephant. One that has embraced her…

Miniscule Mwinzi is bursting with confidence. Though he hasn’t perfected the art of drinking from the hosepipe (more water ends up on the ground than in his belly) that doesn’t stop him from trying. Even his rescue story is a lesson in fortitude: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwinzi

Your smile of the day, courtesy of Bondeni and Keeper Peter. This was filmed in 2021 when Bondeni was 2 years old. At this tender young age, our efforts are focused on ensuring the orphaned elephants survive the loss of their mothers. That includes healing from trauma, forging…

Doldol is in intrepid explore mode. At just 21 months old, she is leaning into her adventurous side. Most recently that has included expanding her social circle and hanging out with the older Kaluku orphans. This is a great step forward for our little beetle; born premature, we…

Amazing what you can find in a Keepers coat pocket. Determined little pickpocket Mwinzi is an orphan of drought. He knows true hardship first-hand but his days of deprivation are behind him & thanks to constant snacks, his tummy is get rounder & rounder. sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwinzi

Doldol will eat anything she can get her trunk on, even nutrient-loaded bark. It might sound unpalatable to most but it’s actually brilliant news that she has developed a taste for the woody stuff. Why? In the dry season, bark can provide additional minerals during dry spells…

Every orphan has their quirks. Mwinzi’s? He like to eat & eat & eat! This time gourmet bliss looks like a scrummy stick courtesy of his Keepers who forage the coveted branches for him daily. It’s this extra TLC that’s seen him through the worst of times: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwinzi

It’s been said before: Mwinzi likes to take his sweet time. While others dash out for a day in the bush, this sleepyhead saunters out on his schedule. Never mind, we’ll be over here waiting for him - & will continue to do so until he’s ready to go wild: sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/orphans/mwinzi

Just. A. Little. Bit. More. Mwinzi sucks his trunk to get every last droplet of milk. He doesn't have to wait long until the next serving; every 3 hours, we hand-feed orphans of his age bottles of freshly mixed formula milk - day & night - to ensure their nutritional needs are…
