The "good-natured fun" of British football in the 80s. The days of decrepit stadiums, the worst fire disaster in English football, rampant hooliganism, the National Front's heyday, an English-club ban in Europe & comfortably the lowest attendances in a century. What nostalgia!

Something has fundamentally changed in Birmingham. And Britain, too, has changed with it. Consider football: the rough and tumble of our national game is nothing new for the West Midlands. Growing up in the eighties, my Dad took me to more than a few matches at Villa Park in the…

You really couldn’t make it up. Question Time is now doing a whole show on what it’s like growing up in Britain today….with a panel that includes only one person under the age of 45. The average age of the panellists debating what it’s like being young in Britain today? 48.…

Dual income pensioners bringing in sub £70k will receive a winter fuel stipend. Bizarre when you consider graduates/millennials/young families will earn far less (thank you stagnating wages) and receive no help. Is this policy designed to help people, or to appease the press?

Newcastle shithousing the life out of Arsenal. Bullied them from minute one - after being brilliant in the first leg. looks like Trippier has been shouting 'all fucking day' and 'they don't fucking want it' the whole game.

From what I can tell, Question Time has had one panellist under the age of 35 since 1st February last year - almost a full year ago. In other words, the voices and perspectives of millions and millions of younger people have been almost totally excluded from the BBC’s main…

Once again, no young voices at all on this flagship BBC politics programme. Five panellists, the youngest of whom is 48. Average age 56. They wouldn’t dream of having five men but routinely exclude entire generations.

At thirty my dad was a fireman and could afford a three bed house & two kids. I’m in a high earning couple, but no way near getting a family home. There’s a quiet tragedy of people having far fewer children because they can’t afford the house. thetimes.com/comment/column…

Housing. It's all about housing. Make housing so unaffordable people are still living in houseshares (or with parents!) in their 30s, and where are they going to raise the babies you want them to have? (See also high taxes on working people for ever-expanding pensions bill)

The generation saying this stuff also needs to come to terms with the fact that it's at least partly downstream of their decisions. They blocked new housing, didn't save for retirement, had kids late and often didn't bail them out of financial trouble. Bare branch mindset.

Hardly the greatest villain of the night, but Rory Stewart is proof of how far you can get by being confident and having a posh British accent.

Kamala Harris will win comfortably, because: • Biden’s admin has been solid • Trump’s lost ground since 2016 • The young Black male votes which Trump needs didn’t turn out in 16, 18, 20, or 22 • Young women like Kamala + vote ✴️Ignore polls—they’re herding, after past misses

Quote of the meeting has to go to Andy Burnham. “The north needs better than an unreliable fax-driven railway.”

Currently watching northern mayors grilling (nationalised) Northern Rail about their appalling performance. I feel like I have watched this meeting approximately 40,000 times, just with Northern and TPE swapping in and out
