If 'movement disorder' could be reworded to 'jumping off bridges', 'diving in front of trains' then prescribers may realise that akathisia is far more serious than jittery arms and legs. Labelling it a 'disorder' benefits the ideology that it's non-drug related. #AkathisiaMatters
And to falsely call akathisia a movement disorder serves to increase the likelihood that it will continue to be missed, misdiagnosed, mistreated and lead to avoidable deaths.
