Very cool work showing under nutrient-limited conditions cells can still undergo glycolysis utilizing uridine. Shown in both cancer cells, primary cells, and in vivo. Wow, Metabolism is fascinating. nature.com/articles/s4225…

When the science is over… Congrats to all my fellow #JohnHaddad Awardees #AIMM2022 @ASBMR @MayoClinicEndo
Aww thanks! In honor of 35+ years of the AIMM/@ASBMR John Haddad Young Investigator meeting, all current and previous YI awardees (some of us are no longer so young 😂) received these lovely pins. #AIMM2022
Celebrating the #AIMM2022 Young Investigator awardees. The future of bone and mineral research is in good hands! @ASBMR

Body composition changes using two different weight loss diets: 7.5% carb (left panel) & 45% carb (right panel). These presumably result in insulin differences, yet both seem to result in a similar % weight loss as fat (comparing the overall y-axis values between panels).
In two trials, we found that people with high insulin secretion & resistance lose MORE lean mass and LESS fat. This body composition response may predispose to wt regain. Maybe measures to lower insulin secretion in these people would help. Open access: nutrition.org/differences-in…

Differences in insulin dynamics may influence changes in body composition independent of weight...
A newly released study in The Journal of Nutrition reported that individual differences in baseline insulin dynamics predicted changes in body composition

Carotenoids are red Anthocyanins are blue No one really understands why they’re good for you
So glad to see our paper being recognized by @MesenchymalCell! Certainly a collaborative effort with a bulk of the work done by Drs. Matt Prideaux and William Thompson (@wthomp99). Looking forward to seeing these cells used more often not only at @IUICMH but elsewhere.
Collaborators from @IUICMH and @HeSPAuoa, including Dr. Christian Wright (@CSWrightPhD), developed two #mesenchymal progenitor cell lines, both of which were capable of osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic #differentiation. 🧫 Full article: 📎 go.nature.com/32jzn2Y

If you’re interested in doing a PhD, send me a message. I oversee a PhD program in Rehab Science. I’d be happy to talk to you about options.
Nice figure! Timing is certainly an important factor for optimal performance, but so is quantity and type of macronutrient ingested. Being aware of the symptoms of hypoglycemia is one way to help you personally decide what to eat prior to an exercise bout.
