I love how this simple activity can extend to multiple next-steps for students! Writing words, creating sentences, word hunt in a book/magazine/brochure, etc., tell a story with these words, and so much more!

What an excellent way to have students lead their own learning? And to motivate their classmates?
The craziest activity during our 3 weeks of camp was our Procedural Writing Activity creating summer snowmen! Students had to follow eachothers instructions and the most outrageous snowmen were created! ๐ @MissPSpring @HWDSBSummerCamp




This plane activity at @HWDSBSummerCamp, had students adding up amounts to get to 100. An opportunity here for mental math. ๐

This gr.4 @HWDSBSummerCamp class is completing an egg drop challenge! Students planned their design and created a structure. They will test out their design tomorrow with a real egg! This group added cotton and a small balloon inside the blue cups for added cushioning! Good luck!


Students in this @HWDSBSummerCamp class showed interest in Pokรฉmon cards. Today they are engaged in creating their own Pokรฉmon cards! Great literacy connection through labeling and analyzing parts of a card. Next step: pokemon card math as they play against each otherโs decks!


A restaurant constructed by a @HWDSBSummerCamp junior campers. Who says students outgrow tiles, blocks& playdoh after K-1? What are ways to build in literacy connections to this task? How might you differentiate the use of materials to engage students of various age/grade levels?

Build-a-house task for @HWDSBSummerCamp campers! Hone executive functioning in planning, organization, perseverance and more! Love the math connection with price attached to materials. Beyond the obvious learning, how might rich tasks help rebuild social skills post-pandemic?

Students fetched individual letters hidden in the field and collaboratively spelled words. Lots of team work, strategizing, and problem solving going on! Who was the runner? What letters do we need? Should we fetch vowels first? #HWDSBhappycamper @HWDSBSummerCamp
