After much careful consideration I came to the conclusion that it was probably just about worth my while getting out of bed for this shoot

Lots of people getting in touch to thank the National Trust for getting the colours right on our Crisps Map of Britain. We don’t pick fights with other institutions but @walkers_crisps have been selling salt & vinegar in a green bag and cheese & onion in a blue one for too long.

National Trust crisp map of Britain. Maybe this is why there are a lot of geordies in London. Some of us couldn’t stay in a cheese & onion stronghold.

I have complained to the Spectator about their publishing of this repeated falsehood. The National Trust Council Nominations Committee is composed of elected members and executive management has no involvement. This is precisely to ensure independence and democratic integrity.

National Trust management wants you to take the Quick Vote and back their handpicked candidates. But if you care about restoring the Trust to its true mission, vote individually and support candidates who will hold leadership to account. restoretrust.org.uk/agm-2025

It’s also important to note that the National Trust’s management has no say in who is recommended for Council elections. That is done by elected members. Every year this wrong claim is printed, rebutted, repeated and printed again, by the same papers.

Lord Moore reports in the Spectator that the private company Restore Trust is this year making a new claim to cast doubt on National Trust democratic elections. Something to do with Canada & ballot flooding. National Trust elections are transparent, fair and overseen by Civica.

Have just been on a tour of Sir Winston Churchill’s wardrobe. According to the National Trust’s leading Churchill expert he really did pair this velvet jumpsuit with a ten gallon hat. That is audacious. I mean, I wouldn’t dare and my singing club is quite flamboyant.

A brush with Jock the cat on an evening prowl in Lady Churchill’s garden at Chartwell has just given me all the National Trust feelings. As the great man said, Keep Buggering On.

Younger son just observed that I must feel disappointed cos I’m almost the same age as Snoop Dogg and he’s achieved much more with his life. I mean it’s true, but how many other mums get held to this standard while making a salad at the end of a long day working in heritage?

I am not the most heritageous person in the heritage sector, I think my colleagues would agree. But as we walked down a London road this week my 16-year-old spontaneously identified a ha-ha. It gave me all the warm feelings.

In fact you don’t get to vote out the female employees/lanyard bossgirls at the National Trust AGM - they have employment rights like anyone else. But you do get to vote for our governing Council, and that feels important right now. Members can vote here shorturl.at/IlnXY

Enraging story and a good time to remind that the National Trust AGM is on the 8th Nov, the annual chance to vote out the lanyard bossgirls in favour of the marginally better Restore Trust.
