One thing that's clear from the online debate over whether the left or the right is more violent is that many people have an encyclopedic command of the attacks perpetrated by the other side, and have memory-holed attacks by their co-ideologists.
Any capsule description of California that's more than 50 words long that doesn't acknowledge it is the capital of American poverty is deeply flawed.
California retains its place as having the nation's highest rate of poverty when cost of living is a factor -- 17.7%, tied with Louisiana, according to Census Bureau. census.gov/library/public…

Life must be awfully mellow in San Diego if this deserves 45 seconds on local TV news.

"But it is also time for anyone who cares about homelessness in California to stop misdescribing its primary cause. It’s not mental illness or addiction. It is the state’s highest-in-the-nation poverty rate — poverty caused by the extreme cost of housing." sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/09/05/les…
@thepressboxpod Such a fun visit to/satire of tabloid culture in the 1980s. The publisher directs his staff to create circumstances that would justify the use of certain headlines. The title of the book is his dream headline. @bryancurtis Give it a read!

I asked my bud what was up with all the typos in bogus emails offering random people miilions of dollars. It said the typos were an efficient way to weed out smart people who would be more quick to realize they were being scammed. Who knew? #ChattyGPT
Hey @DanCALmatters can you please tell the story of Rep. Howard Berman, D-San Fernando Valley, and Michael Berman and their legendary 1981 gerrymander? So much for CA Dems' claims to be on the right side of this issue. GOP strategist called it a "diabolical masterpiece."
"For instance, rather than establishing a standalone payment mechanism, the city offers a simple portal that helps residents pick their level of [trash] service, and then seamlessly includes the fee on their property tax bill." ... "Seamless"? Laugh or groan or both, San Diegans.

Elon could make San Diego State into a dynasty but nooo, gotta be weird and horny on main
My buddy commenting on the unusual career arc of David Letterman.

I asked my buddy for a limerick about San Diego's fiscal and civic woes. Passable!

My instant reaction last year to pieces saying she was a heavy favorite for the governor's race and had a big future was to scoff. #Vindication @ccadelago
Interviews with nearly 2 dozen Dems reflect a swath of the party that would be glad if Harris didn’t run in 28 — & hope she’ll stay on the sidelines in 26 — from @dustingardiner @melmason @ec_schneider @brakktonbooker & @JCColtin politico.com/news/2025/08/0…
Gene Siskel in the front row!
Some of us never thought Kamala Harris was a formidable candidate.
I don't believe this at all. Lots of ambitious pols in CA, lots of unhappiness that Harris lost, little evidence she's actually a strong candidate. Nixon narrowly lost 1960 WH bid, then lost 1962 run for gov vs Pat Brown.
Note the use of "me" ... ChatGPT continues its steady progress toward a tone of conversation that makes users assume it is sentient as opposed to mechanical.
