True mastery-based (or standards-based) education would focus purely on results. Attendance would be the means to an end, not the goal.
Public school attendance last fall averaged 90 percent, according to a federal survey, a figure that experts say remains too low. The data comes as the White House urges states to focus on chronic absenteeism this year. wapo.st/421BenS

Waiting for supporters of classical education and champions of western civilization to condemn the removal of Michelangelo's "pornographic" David from a Florida classical school's curriculum.

Life is bribery. There are incentives (& disincentives) in everything we do. You change how you interact w/ Ss, they receive grades, etc. If candy isn't your thing, cool. But if another T uses candy & kids actually learn, who cares? Are we about learning or moral stands on candy?
I am not a candy teacher. I refuse to bribe students like they are animals because they are capable humans. However, I’m one of the only teachers on staff right now not using bribery.
I haven't released new contact since the birth of my third child, but ClassCast is still attracting listeners. Just passed 10,000 downloads, excluding YouTube views & direct downloads! buzzsprout.com/643156/achieve…
Good goal, terrible messaging. He should apologize. I normally join the PTA/PTSO, but if I received this message from my principal, I wouldn't join on principle.

At Apple, we know educators. We know all the prep that goes into getting ready for new students. This year, we want to take last year’s nearly vacant classrooms to the next level by giving away $1,500.💰🥳 Enter for a #chancetowin by Mon., 8/23! ✨ bit.ly/3s9Bdwd ✨
This implies teachers weren't already doing their best & that more can be done with the same system & resources. Legislators caused this problem; let them fix it. Stupid take by @TheAtlantic. theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…
It's always "$600 checks two years ago and 50-cent raises for workers are causing inflation" and never "$3 trillion from the Fed to bail out the stock market, $1 trillion in annual corporate stock buybacks and a 1,322% rise in CEO pay since 1978 are causing inflation"
When my kids say that something is boring, I remind them that things only seem boring to uncreative or unintelligent people. That thing is not boring, but you might be.
My nine-year-old made the mistake of telling me he was bored. As a consequence he had to write this quote five times 😊
This has little to do with schools and much to do with a tenacious attack on public institutions. This is a testament to fear-mongering, blaming "the other," misrepresentation, and willful ignorance.
