!!!!!

I'm just going to say it: Some of the worst advice on endurance training, VO2max, etc. comes from non-endurance fitness influencers They know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to know they are wrong You're better off listening to a HS cross-country coach.

We as parents set our families schedules. Not coaches, friends and outsiders. Prioritize what’s important and don’t compromise.

I think the concept of “culture” needs to be completely redefined and revamped at the high school sports level. I don’t have answers but I do know that what used to be effective no longer is. HS aged kids generally care much less than those who were in HS 10 years ago.

For youth sports: It does not matter how good a kid is at a sport until after they go through puberty. There is no such thing as an 11 year old sports star. Do not over-index on early promise. Focus on exploration, fun, and cultivating interests. Not performance.

Hot take: It doesn't matter if we give trophies to all or none of the 8 year olds playing youth soccer. It has little impact. What does matter: If we have parents acting like their 8yr olds game is the world cup and losing their minds on the sideline. Focus on what matters.

A new study came out claiming that 20% of parents think their child will be a division one athlete while 10% of parents think their child will be a professional athlete and/or be in the Olympics. To put that in context of numbers, that means of a graduating class of 500…

"Any high school coach telling your kid that they can't play multiple sports is telling you that because it's in their best interest. The second that coach tells you that, you should be out."@gregolsen88 You're not just taking away the sport. You're taking away the memories.

Man, I never want to hear again about how much better NBA players today. Let’s see the Load Management All-Stars play with 80s and 90s rules and get clobbered every night. They’ll also be disappointed to know they can’t pick up the ball and run around with it like Walter Payton.

100% agree.

We suck at predicting talent development. We're not good at it. Accept that. Now, if that's the case, why wouldn't we want to keep more people in the pipeline to see how they develop? Too often, especially in youth sports, we talent ID too quickly. We're fooling ourselves.

Most High School Athletes speed peaks when they are 9-10th grade… if they don’t train. As they age, they gain mass. If they don’t continue getting stronger, their relative strength value diminishes and speed follows. It’s why we see 9-10th grade phenoms who fade.

The best Strength and Conditioning Programs aren’t off-season programs… They are in-season programs. This is where you create the biggest advantage. If your athletes never stop training, they lap programs who only go hard for 6-9 months🙌🏻
