I used to tell the college athletes I coached: “This isn’t just about running. I’m preparing you for life.” Most didn’t believe me at the time. But a decade later, they all do now. Because what you learn on the track shows up everywhere. Running & Sport explains life.
Two of my favorite programs to watch in the 4x1
Devin Augustine anchors the Gophers to a new 4x100m meet record in the Big Ten final! 38.54 - Minnesota 38.79 - USC
I am now convinced that the USA Men’s 4x100 needs to go to the 4-7 place finishers at the US Trials. Let them focus solely on the relay, and nothing else. No other races, no distractions
RAI BENJAMIN IS FINALLY AN OLYMPIC CHAMPION. #ParisOlympics 📺 NBC & Peacock
Is there any merit to the idea of specializing the U.S. 4x1? Take that next tier, the athletes who aren’t quite individual World qualifiers, have them train/race a few times a year, and send them to these meets. What you lose in 100m PR you more than gain in reliable handoffs.
If you're only looking at D1 programs but aren't a TOP recruit of those programs, don't assume you're gonna get "D1" experience you think you're gonna get! Many of you better be prepared for a lot of unattached &/or small local races, home meets & figuring a lot out on your own!
"To be successful at anything, the truth is, you don't have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren't: consistent, determined, and willing to work for it. No shortcuts." @TomBrady The path to greatness is simple, but it's not easy.

Essentialism in Coaching: "Coach Tellez was a huge influence on me when I first started my college coaching career. He valued essentialism and therefore wrote simple programs that you could probably fit on the back of a matchbox! - Dan Pfaff
Still one of my favorite track memories! Anything, but a baton race and my throwers used a distance runner 😂😂
A good runner should be a good runner
The 1600m runner should be able to... • Run a very good 3200m...one distance "up" • Run a very good 800m...one distance "down" • Run a solid 5000m/5k...two distances up • Run a solid 400m...two distances down Can you?
I guess It supports what I've been saying, that the long jump is the most difficult event in track and field. That would just eliminate the the most difficult skill from the event. Just make the basket larger for free throws because so many people miss them. What do you think?

To take it a step further--particularly in technical events, you may NEED to be bad for a while. Early on, you can get a better mark by executing incorrectly but faster and more powerfully. But that will make it harder to do it right later on and get the truly big marks.

Anybody, and I mean anybody, can get the Horns Down.
I was curious how many coaches would attend a Social Media session at USTFCCCA. A lot! I'm so proud of these coaches wanting to improve the messaging of their program. PS: Veronica Rocco of @AmherstXCTF did an AWESOME job!

What's the best predictor of your grades in college? Not SAT scores, HS GPA, or your study time & habits. It's whether you show up. Attendance is one of the best predictors of academic performance. Same goes for any pursuit. Showing up is the most important part of performing
