I want community organizing to be something that we practice everyday. For our families, the youth, our neighbors. Minneapolis has always been this racist. This mayoral race really illuminated it even more. Progress has always been halted by the milquetoast “not yet” majority.

I want to know how the mayor of Minneapolis will address the bigotry and unabashed racism, xenophobia, and islamohobia of his supporters.

Encampment residents were told to leave to allow the police investigation but were told they would be allowed to return to claim their property. They weren't. MPD used the occasion to search their tents, then dispose of their property including their papers, meds, wallets, etc.

Not only has Mayor Frey not adequately addressed homelessness over the last 8 years, but he has continued to pursue the same violent encampment sweeps that are failing everyone. This was highlighted in a recent piece in the Star Tribune.

Minneapolis needs to take a housing first approach to homelessness. Without a well-resourced, compassionate, and resident-focused approach, the conditions for violence in encampments will continue to exist. Tragedies like the one last night are completely avoidable.

Everyone wringing their hands over "political violence" had better also mean this person suggesting genocide on live TV as casually as he'd order lunch.

585/1200 - thank you!! Can anybody help push this past the halfway point today?

I can’t emphasize enough how wearing a respirator mask during a global pandemic is an act of defiance. By wearing one, you’re directly going against what the government wants, which is sickness and disability. It’s a powerful act and it makes a difference. Masking is resistance!

We’re launching a new task force to clear encampments, restore public spaces, and connect people with shelter and services. California is taking action by reducing unsheltered homelessness and outperforming the nation in slowing this crisis.

As seen in this video, Jacob Frey and Donald Trump treat unhoused people exactly the same. There’s something uniquely devastating about watching people with nowhere to go, in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, be treated like literal garbage just for existing.

Masks are under serious threat at being banned widely due to politicization. This would be a public health disaster. If you’re only wearing a mask at protests, please consider wearing them elsewhere. The more people mask, the more we normalize masks and protect them against bans.

Keep South Minneapolis in your thoughts today and in the coming days. Last night and today’s homicides are heartbreaking. Retaliatory attacks are a reality. Thinking of all families mourning the loss of their loved ones.
