With camps under imminent threat, you might be wondering what you can do to help defend our neighbors. You don't gotta be part of an org or have special training. Here's some ideas - whether you're one person or many. Please share!
Barret Lane, Director of the Office of Emergency Management is a key city official responsible for planning and conducting encampment evictions. Call him at 612-673-3747 and demand an immediate halt to any planned evictions.
As of today, Near North, Quarry, and 29/14 encampments have all received eviction notices without explicit closure dates. This represents in the ballpark of 180 unhoused individuals under active threat of displacement.
This report + .@MPD_150 ‘s report in combo paint a pretty accurate picture. This isn’t new. He doesn’t get more time.
Mayor Frey needs more time (for his staff) to "digest" a 72 page report that details a litany of police abuses that have been documented in one form or another for years.
We are concerned about this as well…
MPD’s insufficient training also contributes to a concerning pattern with respect to how MPD officers engage with individuals experiencing homelessness
