A neat puzzle- 1. Shade any 2 sections 2. What fraction of the square is shaded? 3. What other fractions are possible? Impossible? This puzzle kicked off discussions at a workshop for PD Hub members.

Few things feel better than coming up with a brilliant research question… until you find the 2011 paper that already figured it out.

Get familiar with the mesmerizing math art of MoMath’s Visiting Professor David Reimann (@drMathArt), like these representations of integers 1-100. What are some patterns you notice? View more: drmathart.com/Artwork.php.

Very cool!

Did you know you can subtract left to right?!

Researchers talk about "reading for pleasure" & modelling it for Ss. Need more of this with math. I call it “mathing for joy.” Adults/Ts/Ss modelling doing math (outside of school tasks) for enjoyment. Could alleviate math anxiety. "Mathing for joy"... Pass it on!😃

Being intentional in my approach to learning and collaborating as a doctoral student this year. Listen actively, Ask questions, Reflect deeply, Contribute meaningfully In that order.

This is such a cool idea to connect the classroom to families of students in an authentic, tangible way!

I’ve always done a “Silent Conversation” to start a unit, but I like this idea better. I’m going to try engaging families by having these statements on the board during Back to School Night and comparing what adults said to my students.

Math journals are a powerful tool to support students’ social emotional learning. The rights prompts allow students to reflect on their learning, develop self-awareness, and build resilience.

🤓 How can you use a #math journal at an offline station that encourages students to 1️⃣ engage in a regular reflective practice, & 2️⃣ think more deeply about mathematical concepts & processes? 👉🏻 bit.ly/3V8yFyR #MathChat #EdChat #ITeachMath #StationRotation

Such a fan of open middle questions! Adding the classic line “Using the digits 1 to 9 at most once each time…” can also facilitate rich mathematical discussions about regrouping. Possible answers: 63-15=48, 63-48= 15, 63-45=18, 63-18=45

How are your fourth graders with regrouping? This @openmiddle problem from @mathgeek76 will get the misconceptions to come out so you can address them. openmiddle.com/subtraction-wi…

Fantastic resource!

A few years ago I built a catalogue of thinking tasks that were shared with me. Its since been added to and updated in an easy to access format. The link below gives access. #mtbos @KirstDy @pgliljedahl @NolanFossum @pearse_margie @Sneffleupagus docs.google.com/document/d/1ad…
