I grew up in Methodist and CMA churches, wife is pentacostal. When you feel “the spirit” you put one or two hands up in worship. Open hands, arm slightly bent, but going straight up at a 90 degree angle. Never, ever 45 degrees, straight out. That’s 100% nazi salute.
Specifically, were you part of a Pentecostal/Charismatic church? I grew up in a Baptist-esque church and they wouldn’t do this (They frown on most bodily movement or Holy Spirit talk). But many Pentecostal-esque churches I’ve been in raise their hand in prayer just like this.
