Around two-thirds of all Dutch children walk or cycle to school, preventing an estimated one million car journeys across the country each morning. That’s much less strain on their streets, their wallets, and their lives; simply by enabling safe and active travel in their cities.
#bonaly car park: no bike rack (but lots of car parking spaces) + bicycle repair mount installed the wrong way around = @EdinburghCC is just so many decades behind everybody in delivering transport infrastructure "right-first-time" that promotes active travel.
An important point made by former active travel minister Trudy Harrison today: In schools, when you ask how many kids cycle to school: no hands go up. When you ask how many kids would like to cycle to school: all the hands go up. 🙋♀️🙋🏻♂️ We owe it to kids to enable them.

It was a BIG night tonight, the launch of London Cycling’s report, “What stops women cycling?” 1000 women were surveyed about the abuse they face on bikes in the capital, and the results are astounding. 9 out of 10 women have faced aggression or abuse on the road. 🧵 1/14
A favorite trope of drivers is "People who ride bikes should pay their fair share." When you explain what that actually looks like, enthusiasm generally evaporates. By all means, let's price property damage, space, road wear $=kg^4, pollution (air, noise), injuries and deaths.
They don't pay 60% or so as motorists do. #Biker riders need to pay a user fee.
