I wonder if Penny Mordant has realised the pinnacle of her political career was carrying a sword while dressed as a Greek flight attendent?

As the issue of compensation for miscarriages of justice is rightly in the news, it’s timely to note that in 2014, the government changed the law to make it all but impossible for people wrongly convicted and imprisoned to claim compensation.

Two gongs for @ICOnews in this years honours list - a first for the organisation. Well done to Paul and Nicky.

Congratulations to Paul and Nicky, for their well deserved honours!

Given the way your husband was so shabbily treated by the British spooks, I hope you have more success in obtaining an appropriate security clearance from the Australian intelligence agencies.

Delighted to share that I've been appointed as the new Australian Privacy Commissioner. I'll be farewelling London for a while and relocating to Sydney to take up the role in February 2024.

The lack of time offered to stakeholders and parliamentarians to consider the proposals indicate an astonishing level of contempt for the traditional consultative process.

For instance a new lawful basis of "processing necessary for ... responding to a request made in accordance with the Agreement [with the Trump administration] for Access to Electronic Data for the Purpose of Countering Serious Crime"). @ICOnews silence is also unacceptable.

Let’s wait until the details are published rather than rush to condem such proposals.

Browsing through the list of accredited trainers for IAPP certifications, I was bemused to see this outfit which calls itself Privacy Matters. They should not be confused with the great Pat Walshe, whose @PrivacyMatters tweets have educated & entertained us for many years.

This ‘new investigation’ probably adds little to the list of concerns that @PrivacyMatters has been raising with opinion formers within the European Parliament during the last 19 years

1/ In approx 2004 I attended a meeting in the @Europarl_EN along with @DataProtector The meeting was about mobile location privacy (think 3G) & whether new regulation was needed. I expressly discussed the data credit/debit card companies collect &

Congratulations on producing a 23 page report outlining the views of 12 young people…

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) commissioned the British Youth Council (BYC) to recruit and deliver a focus group with 12 young people (between 15 and 17 years of age) on the topic of biometrics. See ico.org.uk/media/about-th….

Just flown over my house!

The @rafredarrows are frickin’ awesome 👏🏽 (Clip shows planes flying in starburst display over the sea, with red and blue smoke)

An excellent illustration of the maxim that technology can't be relied upon to remediate bad behaviours.

And yes, I've reviewed a LOT of material on the subject and have not found anyone to believe in the holy grail. But also, even if it did exist it WILL be repurposed.

Nothing to be concerned about here. It’s just the end of a long turf war where the Home Office’s commissioner has lost out. The Home Office isn’t having much luck on any front these days.

The UK's Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner role will be subsumed by the ICO. I haven't thought about this much. But the government is clearly supportive of widespread facial recognition, and the ICO has treated FR cases very lightly. Should I be more concerned?

R Jenrick isn’t someone people take seriously. He’ll be forgotten soon enough.

R Jenrick suggesting UK might leave ECHR, L Chancellor attacking lawyers acting lawfully in challenging govt action they disagree with, Home Sec blaming lefty lawyers for immigration failures. Deliberate undermining of law and lawyers by government. There will be consequences.
