Did you know that research has found that youth incarceration increases the likelihood that a young person will reoffend? Incarceration is not only expensive, but it is also harmful to children and threatens public safety.
Jail is no place for someone suffering with a mental illness. 60% of people who were in jail with a chronic condition didn’t take their medication while incarcerated. Community Release with Support allows people to continue their lives & access the medical care that they need.
I have seen variations of this graphic, which is helpful because it is a visual representation of these terms, but the last frame is often missing. We all need to work on removing systemic barriers.
