Without competition, Apple and Google have failed to protect kids. @RepKatCammack and @RepLoriTrahan's bipartisan App Store Freedom Act would give parents tools & alternatives. @DigtalProInst led a coalition of child safety advocates urging @HouseCommerce to approve the bill.
. @ccianet’s argument in a nutshell: #BigTech has a constitutional right to contract with minors outside of their parents’ purview. Contracts signed by minors are unenforceable, but the app stores, including Apple’s and Google’s, make all users – including children – sign a…
SB2420, Texas’s app store law, violates the #FirstAmendment several times over. It also usurps parental rights, substituting the state’s preferences for parents’ judgments while also burdening parents with app-by-app and purchase-by-purchase intervention. Read more:…
Apple and Google appear to be easily complying with the App Store Accountability Act and helping developers do the same. This, despite breathless claims about impracticability and a privacy/security apocalypse.
Dozens of business groups urge Trump to double down on strong antitrust enforcement. The President sent a message when he @AAGSlater and @AFergusonFTC to their posts, and they have continued taking important action against Google, Amazon, Meta, Ticketmaster, and others.
Congrats to @joellthayer, @Melissa_M818 and all the advocates who made the App Store Accountability Act law in Texas. Despite Apple's fierce opposition and outlandish claims about the impact of the legislation, they're implementing it. The sky will not fall.
Thank you to @DuckDuckGo for its very generous donation to the Digital Progress Institute! These resources allow us to continue our mission to promote bipartisan and incremental policies in the tech and telecom space. spreadprivacy.com/p/bd445f49-d08…
My latest in @HarvardJLPP on the legal case for app store age verification—akin to provisions within @BasedMikeLee & @JohnJamesMI’s App Store Accountability Act. TL/DR: I believe it’s constitutional. journals.law.harvard.edu/jlpp/wp-conten…
As @SenatorFischer and @SenatorLujan lead their colleagues to reform and modernize the FCC's Universal Service Fund, I resubmitted comments that @JoinFAI provided to the USF Working Group's predecessor in the prior Congress.
Judge Mehta cited “a healthy dose of judicial humility” as the reason why he couldn’t correct the clear concerns in the general search market even after saying the DOJ had @Google dead to rights violating our laws. I guess we need Congress to step in. newsweek.com/what-google-se…
In his ruling on Google search, Judge Mehta took us from blockbuster to lackluster, writes @JoelLThayer. While data sharing requirements and restrictions on exclusive contracts are positive steps, they don't address the "full breadth of the harms to competition and consumers."
The answer is legislation. Bills like the AMERICA Act and Open App Markets Act would address competition issues head on in a way that protracted litigation can't. Read the full analysis here: newsweek.com/what-google-se…

Big Tech's data centers profit from broadband without paying, while @FCC $8B USF relies on landline surcharges. Time to reform so those who benefit from broadband networks contribute financially. #BroadbandAccess @washingtonpost washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/…
Great piece by @RoslynLayton on the need for USF reform and how #BigTech's free riding fully justifies augmenting its contribution base to include them. Also, huge thank you for the shout-out to @DigitalProInst's economic paper! Link to paper: digitalprogress.tech/wp-content/upl…

The App Store Accountability Act says "teenagers can't just go download an app where something bad might happen without a parent being involved in that." @jasonrapert highlights a state model from @ChristLawmakers.
‼️We have a new economic white paper on USF reform! Check it out here: digitalprogress.tech/wp-content/upl…
