Yesterday, I filed comments on the DOJ's request for information on state laws that are harming economic growth and interstate commerce. We highlighted the growing state AI law patchwork and offered fixes. 🧵

IDEA: have a man holding a red flag at walking pace ahead of each Waymo to reduce risk

DC - are you hearing this? @MayorBowser, you want safer streets? Fewer pedestrian and bicyclist deaths? Push for AVs in the District.

258,618 That's how many Americans have died in traffic accidents since 2017... the same year that @RANDCorporation concluded that "allowing wide use of AVs when they are just 10% better than drivers could prevent thousands of road fatalities over the next 15 ys..."

Build American AI executive director @NathanLeamerDC from the Capitol on why America needs a national AI framework:

This statement equates Congress doing its job to set national AI policy with VOTING FOR THE IRAQ WAR. Would the former Congressman have preferred that each state legislature declare war on Iraq individually? Relieve Congress of that responsibility, too? Avoiding doing one’s…

A vote in favor of AI pre-emption reminds me of the vote in favor of the Iraq War: a decision that will lead to deep regret and which, in a short time, will be an albatross around the neck of anyone running for office. I would know. When I was in Congress, I supported the Iraq…

See footnote 1 on the first page of AI-2027 website, it used to be after '...best guess about what that might look like' but we moved it to the frikken title to be more clear. I also mentioned this in various interviews iirc.

Folks who question the dormant commerce clause must've missed the con law class on the move from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution. States can't step into the shoes of Congress. We ditched an entire form of gov't to prevent states from regulating nat'l matters.

I could literally hear Alvin and the Chipmunks singing while reading this piece. But that didn’t interfere with me learning a TON about the song and how it is a story of technological innovation. Amazing piece. 🎶 “Christmas time…” 🎶

The song dropped a few weeks before Thanksgiving, and tastemakers attacked. They ranked it at the bottom, sneered that the artist wasn’t real and dismissed it as novelty. Then it went to Number 1. We're not talking about recent and mysterious AI act Broken Rust’s number one…

Kevin, bored by merely being one of the most prolific AI law writers and speakers, takes on a new, complicated, fascinating topic.

Our subsea Sputnik moment cannot pass w/o congressional action. The fragility of the undersea cable system is growing by the day as China introduces new uncrewed undersea vehicles. Now's the time for action. Thanks to @RepOgles for chairing this important @HomelandGOP hearing.

AI policy is national security policy. Much of it should be made at the federal level. The NDAA seems like an appropriate vehicle to start.
