So right now, when people get vaccinated, they should continue taking precautions until we know more. Be reassured that studies are ongoing to get more information on transmission and asymptomatic infection, and we'll know more very soon (in a month or two).
1/18 This piece is why journalists w/o vaccine reporting experience shouldn’t do hot takes. Despite good intentions, its inept & irresponsible execution make it dangerous. Claiming (falsely) that public health experts are being dishonest w public isn’t how you promote a vaccine.
Dr. Offit told me we should be greeting the Covid vaccines with the same enthusiasm that greeted the polio vaccine: “It should be this rallying cry.” Here’s my attempt at summarizing what we know – and don’t yet know – about the vaccines. (fin) nytimes.com/2021/01/18/bri…
Cutting Washingtonians off from retail, food service and courier jobs; a huge number of medical, dental and therapy offices; and swaths of outdoor space that provide respite from the pandemic.
Chances of getting around DC for the next few days: slim to none
Knowing that his successor opposes the death penalty, Donald Trump has rushed to execute as many people as possible before the transition. He has executed more individuals in weeks than had been federally executed in more than 60 years. Absolutely shameful. End the death penalty.
"There is a great desire to blame Trump—who is certainly very much to blame—and move on, without recognizing and responding to the dire reality: that much of the GOP enlisted in his attempt to steal an election," @zeynep writes: on.theatln.tc/PuVu5dP

impeach, remove, arrest, prosecute. if it doesn’t happen now then this is going to happen again and it will be a lot bloodier
and it’s the impunity, i should say, that sent the whole thing toppling. once white vigilantes realized they would never pay for the violence, there was no reason to ever stop.
it’s not just the storming but the impunity that makes this so reminiscent of late-Reconstruction era attacks on elected officials throughout the South.
If it’s not necessary for police to use teargas against the fascists storming the Capitol right now, it’s not necessary in any circumstance.
If they get away with this it will be worse next time. I promise you.
Capitol historian tells CNN that today is the first time the Capitol has been breached since the War of 1812
Now do you understand why Republicans suppress Black votes? I hereby declare that the Southern states are not red. They are suppressed.
In the leadup to the holidays, maybe we can start talking about our coronavirus tests in a slightly different way. If you do not test positive for the coronavirus, consider that is more about the virus being "not detected," rather than you being "negative" for the virus. 1/
AOC makes great points in this thread. Seems reasonable that savvy organizing and voter turn out would help Dems more than scapegoating progressives and democratic socialists.
There are folks running around on TV blaming progressivism for Dem underperformance. I was curious, so I decided to open the hood on struggling campaigns of candidates who are blaming progressives for their problems. Almost all had awful execution on digital. DURING A PANDEMIC.
