We loved this umbrella towel-like 'dryer' in the entrance to our #Japan hotel so much we couldn't contain our excitement in gleefully saying Hai! (Yes!) ... plus, we also were just having a fun time trying to learn and integrate a new language. #everydayux for life #usability
Today's #Japan 🚽 flusher #usability rating: 2.5/6 Found where expected: Not on top Found close together: Yes 'Easy' to push/reach: Yes Volume signifying shapes: No Vol signifying labels: Yes BUT wrong button order in English! Full flush = left button! Vol signifying texture: No
Whilst this secondary sink above this #Japan toilet definitely didn't look like it was part of the original design, I loved their water conservation #sustainability mindset so when you wash your hands, that greywater is re-used for flushing - even if this is just to save money

What do you choose in an argument between #sustainability vs #usability? Well, one has long-term world defining impacts, whilst the other provides a short-term benefit in one person being able to more easily hold their McDonald's to-go cup along with their bag.

Loved the #accessibility of #Japan's major cities for both sighted and #blind / low vision pedestrians. Raised strips like this line not only the sidewalks for you to follow, but they also turn towards bus stops so if you were following via texture alone, you could feel your way.

I'm always on the lookout for a good #hotel #customerexperience worth talking about. Our APA Hotel in #Japan gave us every bathroom toiletry we could need and then more. Only thing is... I wish they didn't have to be individually plastic wrapped to reduce waste.
Today's 🚽 flusher #usability rating: 4/6 #Japan edition Found where expected: Yes Found close together: Yes 'Easy' to push/reach: Yes Volume signifying shapes: No Vol signifying labels: Yes (Hiragana) plus a bonus English sticker haha Vol signifying texture: No #ToiletTuesday
Taking #publictransportation was an absolutely joy in #Japan, not only because buses and trains left exactly on time every time (allowing you to plan accordingly), but because Japanese society embraced line-based queuing. No pushing, no shoving, wait in your line and get on. <3

When people ask me how was my trip to #Japan, nobody is expecting me to spend 2 minutes raving on about how every restaurant in the world should also have boxes under the table to hold your bags, jackets, and other belongings - my eyes light up talking about this #CX #design gold

Found this photo in my #UXfail archives - a quintessential example of poor web form #design where field labels are shown as placeholder text that's then hidden as soon as you start typing. How would you know if you entered any of these values in the correct corresponding field?

Things seen around #Japan: Angry smoke alarm [sign]. I don't know if this helps universally communicate the intention behind the warning/instructions, but it did at least make this sign fun enough for me to want to capture it. ... we should put eyes on more things ;)
Today's 🚽 flusher #usability rating: ...well, here's the thing... Most Japanese toilets had bidet controls separate from the flush buttons - meaning you have to read all the bidet buttons first only to realise the buttons to flush must be somewhere else...hmm 🤔 #ToiletTuesday
