This plastic straw ban highlights how deeply systemic the disablism is in both government and the environmental movement. They unquestioningly think it's better to punish disabled people for wanting to drink safely than punish the people dumping into the oceans. #strawban
for the sake of those with screen readers I won't type in all caps but please know, this is an all caps rant thread. I am so fucking tired of ableds praising the #StrawBan and saying "of course pwd will still be able to get them" when that is not how any of this works.

The most infuriating thing around the #StrawBan to me is that straws are such a relatively low environmental waste, while it is a monumentally high access need for some. Just ban something else. There's no harm in that. Just, don't institute ableist legislation.

Okay so the feds announced a plastic ban including straws but then the minister of disability inclusion said "don't worry, we will make sure disabled people won't be effected by this!" but how is that even possible? The only way they aren't effected is if there isn't a #StrawBan
